JIM C. PAYNE
Jim C. Payne, who was a two-time champion in the PRCA’s Turquoise Circuit, passed away March 23. He was 65. Payne won the average at the Turquoise Circuit Finals Rodeo in bareback riding in 1981 and then in 1983 he was crowned the year-end bull riding champion of the Turquoise Circuit. Payne was an all-around cowboy, competing in steer wrestling, bareback riding, team roping and bull riding. He was the Central Arizona College Rodeo Man of the Year and West Coast Regional Champion in all-around, bull riding and bareback riding. Payne, who was born Dec. 30, 1958, joined the PRCA in 1980 after his career in Major League Rodeo with the Salt Lake City Buckaroos ended. Payne was a caring father and loved by all. He will be missed but not forgotten. He’s survived by his wife Leslie; son Miles (Candra); daughter Brett Ann (Tyler McKnight); and Turner, Waylon, Payton, Curtis, and Rowdy.
