GUYMON PIONEER DAYS GUYMON, OKLA.

Martin keeps ball rolling with win On a Roll

BY TANNER BARTH T ristan Martin is coming off his most biggest wins of his career at the Fort Worth (Texas) Stock Show & Rodeo. Three months later he can add another NFR Playoff Series presented by Pendleton Whisky win to his résumé. The Sulphur, La., steer wrestler claimed the average title at the Guymon (Okla.) Pioneer Days Rodeo, finishing with 11.6 seconds on three head, edging out second place Hunter Cure by one tenth of a second. “Man, I’ve always liked Guymon,” said Martin, 26. “The steers have always been pretty good there. The setup, you never know what it’s going to be. It could be muddy, cold, or hot. It changes every day. I threw down three steers riding Cade Staton’s horse (FedEx), and they sure make my job a lot easier and that was the case in Guymon.” Headed into the summer run, Martin is sitting third in the PRCA | RAMWorld Standings with $54,923 as of May 10. He said throughout his eight years of ProRodeo he doesn’t think he’s ever had a better start to a season. “Absolutely, I think this is the best start to a year that I’ve had in my ProRodeo career so far,” he said. “Last year was by far my best year and I don’t think I had what I had won now last year at this time. “Coming off a good NFR I was just trying to keep it rolling. You could say having a baby has made me step my game up a little bit maybe.” Before qualifying for his first NFR a year ago and finishing fifth in the world standings, Martin had never finished better than 30th in the world standings. He said the brotherhood that surrounds the steer wrestling community and finding the right horse changed the entire outlook on his career. “I called Cade (Staton) last year during the middle of the summer to see if I could get in the rig with him and ride his horse,” he said. “He didn’t have to let me, but he did. He let me in, and it’s just gone great ever since then. So, I’ll forever be thankful for that.” Now, that he has making the Finals under his belt he’s turning his focus to bigger and better things. He has his sights set on leaving Las Vegas with a gold buckle in December. “I’m just going to keep on doing what I’m doing and not going to change a thing,” Martin said. “I have to stay focused on that gold buckle at the end of the year because that’s ultimately what this deal is all about.” successful year in ProRodeo in 2021 and it doesn’t look like he will be slowing down anytime soon. Earlier this season, Martin picked up one of the
