The 28-year-old, Stillwater, Okla., cowboy is starting to hit his stride as a force in the circuit and a contender for his first Wrangler National Finals Rodeo berth. Howell – a PRCAmember since 2011 – stands second in the circuit behind 2005 All-AroundWorld Champion Ryan Jarrett and has had a big couple months to vault into the top 30 in the PRCA | RAMWorld Standings heading into June. HORSE FOR SUCCESS The key, Howell says, is Diamond, his 7-year-old palomino mare he’s had for nearly three years that is coming into her own as Will Power Howell rounding into form ahead of summer stretch AHouston native who works as a farrier when he’s not competing, Howell has banked $7,190 since mid-April, more than half of his season earnings, to move to 27th in the world with $14,214. He is fresh off a victory at Abbyville (Kan.) Frontier Days on May 22 and won the 76th annual Yuma (Ariz.) Silver Spur Rodeo in mid-April while placing at a handful of other rodeos in recent weeks.
