Buffalo PRCA rodeo has new leadership The Buffalo (Minn.) PRCA Championship Rodeo is under new leadership, with executive director Greg McDonald at the helm. McDonald, a resident of Buffalo, is a former rodeo contestant, past president of Minnesota High School Rodeo Association and a seasoned rodeo producer. In 2018, the Buffalo Rodeo Association and stock contractor Barnes PRCA Rodeo asked McDonald to volunteer his time and talents. In fall 2019, McDonald was hired to revitalize the rodeo for the community. The Buffalo Rodeo dates to 1955 and is Minnesota’s oldest ProRodeo. This year, the rodeo is scheduled for June 24-26. “Being part of the community is extremely important for the Buffalo Rodeo Grounds,” McDonald said in a press release. “For over 50 years many families have built memories around attending Upon marrying Joy on Nov. 17, 1990, he moved to Texas where he raised his family and began and grew his ranching operation. Although his contestant days were behind him, he stayed active in the circuit as a pickup man, chute boss, and mentor and friend to many cowboys. In line with his beliefs of the importance of community service, McDaniel served as a Garza County Commissioner from 2005-16 and served on the Southland ISD School Board for many years. He was preceded in death by his father, Tom. McDaniel is survived by his mother, Shirley Pershell; brother, Brad; wife, Joy; daughters Blake McCulloch and Haylee ( Johnathan) McDaniel Cruz; and son, Clint. Amemorial service was held May 26 at the family property in Southland. The family would like to express their gratitude to InterimHospice of Lubbock, Patty Raney and countless friends for their love and attention to his care. Gary Lee McDaniel, of Southland, Texas, a former PRCA saddle bronc rider and a fixture at the National Finals Rodeo tying in horses, passed away May 20 in Post, Texas, after a seven-year battle with cancer. He was 59. McDaniel was born on July 18, 1961, to Tom and Shirley McDaniel inWhite Sulphur Springs, Mont. McDaniel began his rodeo career as a saddle bronc rider after high school. His successes are too many to mention. Throughout his rodeo career he reached the top 20 in the world standings multiple times, was a chute boss, and mentored and taught a new generation of saddle bronc riders. It was during his rodeo career that McDaniel married the love of his life, Joy Basinger, and had three children, Blake McCulloch, Clint McDaniel and Haylee George Straight to perform at RodeoHouston in 2022 After being canceled in 2021, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo will return Feb. 28 to March 20, 2022. The 21- day event will celebrate the rodeo’s 90th anniversary. Country music icon George Strait will perform on the final night, marking his 31st performance at the rodeo. To date, Strait has entertained more than 1.7 million RODEOHOUSTON fans. “What better way to celebrate the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo’s 90th anniversary than with a special, concert-only performance by the ‘King of Country’ music himself,” rodeo president and CEO Chris Boleman said in a press release. “After a couple of particularly challenging years, our thousands of dedicated volunteers simply can’t wait to welcome everyone back to the rodeo grounds for a Texas-sized celebration of Western heritage that will be well worth the wait.” Individual tickets for Strait’s concert- only performance go on sale to the public BRIEFS

This tradition has continued for many generations. … It is very important we provide this for the next generation.” Association of Rodeo Committees conference The Association of Rodeo Committees held its annual Global Rodeo Conference in Colorado Springs, Colo., May 13-15, with nearly 100 representatives from committees of all sizes. The conference opened with a networking mixer hosted by the ProRodeo Hall of Fame, followed by two days of meetings. Those in attendance had many opportunities for collaborating and exchanging ideas from lessons learned in the past year and how to move their events forward more efficiently.
