personal trainer at Teton Strength in Rexburg. “I’ll keep going to whatever rodeos they will let us go to,” Smith said. Smith, who joined the PRCA in 2014, has qualified for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo three times – 2016-17 and 2019. He finished a career- best fifth in the PRCA | RAMWorld Standings in 2016 and 2017. “I want to keep striving to be a world champion,” Smith said. “That’s every little kid’s dream.” KEEPING BUSY OUTSIDE OF COMPETITION When Smith isn’t going down the rodeo trail, he works with Allen Teller raising bulls and calves. Teller owns and sells bulls in Salmon, Idaho, about two-and-a-half hours from Rexburg. “Allen is basically my second dad,” Smith said. “I have been going to his house since I was 14 years old riding bulls. He’s kind of the reason of where I am today. We just like raising them and selling them. Allen has always raised bulls and calves, and I joined in when I was probably 16 or 17. I enjoy doing it and it means I will always have practice bulls. I always like being around the bulls. It’s fun to see how they each have their own personalities. “I think I will always raise bulls. It’s our way of staying in rodeo. Rodeo has given us everything we’ve ever had.”

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Smith also helped his mother, Valorie, who was doing Facebook Live broadcasts to help drum up business for local restaurants in Rexburg and Idaho Falls. “She was trying to get their names out there and help support them, keep them on their feet since this has been so tough,” said Garrett, who was filming for his mother. As much as Smith enjoys riding and raising bulls, he does dabble in other events. “I have been doing a lot of team roping (as a header and heeler) at my older brother Wyatt’s house in St. Johns, Ariz.,” said Garrett, who spent plenty of time during the pandemic at his brother’s house. “Wyatt still loves bulldogging, so we do that, as well. “I never really thought about going for the all-around (by steer wrestling). I have too much fun riding bulls. You can’t ride bulls forever, and I can team rope forever.” Wyatt qualified for the Wrangler NFR in 2014 in steer wrestling and placed 15th in the world standings. Garrett hazed for Wyatt at the NFR the final eight rounds. Wyatt competes on a limited basis in the PRCA. He’s a K-9 officer with the St. Johns Police Department.
