Out of Action SHORT ROUND

World champion Peebles sidelined with leg injury

S teven Peebles, the 2015 PRCA Bareback Riding World Champion, will miss some time recovering from a broken fibula in his right leg. Peebles suffered the injury following his ride on Bridwell Pro Rodeos’ Roll The Credits at the Redding (Calif.) Rodeo, May 18. “A normal broken bone takes about six weeks to heal, but this isn’t quite as bad,” Peebles said. “I think I will be out three to four weeks and see how I’m feeling. If I feel strong enough, I will start getting on again. I’m just going to rest it and elevate it and then see how I’m feeling in a few weeks.” Peebles was 12th in the May 29 PRCA | RAM World Standings with $38,835. He has qualified for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo seven times – 2009-15. Peebles said the injury swelled up instantly and was like a hematoma.

“I thought it was a hematoma because I was able to put weight on it, it wasn’t hurting and I was able to walk off,” Peebles said. “I was able to get it X-rayed just in case, and sure as heck, I cracked my fibula about halfway through. Injuries are all part of the game. I just have to do what I can to keep my upper body in shape. Hopefully it heals up good before I can take off for the summer run. I’m hoping I can be back for the Reno (Nev.) Rodeo (June 21-29).”
