Bareback rider Dent wins Clovis crown

BY SCOTT KANIEWSKI S teven Dent hadn’t had much success on Corey & Lange Rodeo’s Paradise Moon. He rode the horse for 82 points in Ellensburg, Wash., Sept. 3., and then got the horse again less than a week later at Puyallup, Wash., where he put up a 77-point ride. So when he drew Paradise Moon for the Clovis (Calif.) Rodeo, Dent knew what to expect, but wasn’t sure what would happen. He sawMoon in Red Bluff the week before Clovis. It turned out to be a refresher that helped the two team up for 86 points and the Clovis bareback riding title for the April 27-29 rodeo. “I didn’t ride him that great then (in the fall),” said Dent, who turned 32 in April. “He’s kind of a handful. He really bucked, had a really great day

with me in Clovis. He’s just up and down. Pretty electric and rapid, bucks hard.” The win helped move Dent from 17th place in the 2018 RAMPRCAWorld Standings to 11th as of April 30. “Anytime you can win a rodeo that’s like a $20,000 one-header it’s pretty special,” Dent said. “There aren’t a lot of rodeos that pay that good throughout the year. ... I was just plum excited to win that one. It’s the biggest spring rodeo and it dang sure should help going forward.”
