Bareback rider Jamie Howlett is Howlett won the NILE Pro Rodeo in Billings, Mont., Oct. 17-19, with an 88-point ride on Powder River Rodeo’s Two Buck Chuck. That earned Howlett $4,152 and his first berth toThe American in Arlington, Texas, that he’s much looking forward to. “There’s a lot of money that goes up there,” Howlett said. “This year it changed a lot of the standings and changed a lot in the game. I thought it was pretty good to get a chance at it.” Howlett, originally fromCharleville, Australia, joined the PRCA in 2015. He’s searching for his first qualification to the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. The 29-year-old who lives in Rapid City, S.D., is in the top 10 in the 2020 PRCA | RAMWorld Standings. But earning a spot inThe American gives Howlett a shot at $100,000, with $50,000 of the prize money counting toward the standings. In the 2019 season, every winner at The American with the exception of bull riding qualified for the Wrangler NFR. The American is scheduled for March 7-8, 2020. “Hopefully, it’ll punch my ticket to the NFR too,” he said. Big Billings win helps Howlett heading toThe American.

Hawk Whitt bound for The American In his fourth season of ProRodeo, bull rider HawkWhitt is off to a good start with a chance to keep it going in the spring. The 25-year-old, Wyoming native who now makes his residence in Forsyth, Mont., won the Grand National Rodeo in San Francisco with 156.5 points on two head Oct. 11-19. That helped him earn a spot at The American in Arlington, Texas, in 2020. “I don’t think it’s all quite hit me yet,” Whitt said. “... I’ve been doing this a long time, and it’s finally starting to pan out the way I wanted it to.” The win in San Francisco was worth $2,446. Whitt also won the NILE Pro Rodeo in Billings, Mont., picking up another $4,117. As of Oct. 29, Whitt was in third place in the 2020 PRCA | RAMWorld Standings with $9,047. CINCH ROPING FIESTA SAN ANGELO, TEXAS

Good rolls in San Angelo Shay Good, who finished 16th in the 2019 regular season steer roping PRCA | RAMWorld Standings, got a big start to the 2020 season at the Cinch Roping Fiesta in San Angelo, Texas, Oct. 26-27. Good won the steer roping with a time of 56.2 seconds on four head, earning $8,697. That win quickly vaulted Good into third in the world standings a month into the young season. The three-time ClemMcSpadden National Finals Steer Roping qualifier (2015-17) missed out on his fourth qualification by less than $500. Good finished the 2019 regular season with $34,399. Thomas Smith, who nabbed the last spot at No. 15, qualified for the NFSR with $34,835. Good’s biggest win last year was $4,364, earned at the RAMTexas Circuit Finals Rodeo inWaco. His win in San Angelo nearly doubled that victory.
