CALEB MCCASLIN
How’d you get your start in rodeo? Caleb: My dad rode bulls whenever I was younger. So, I’ve always kind of had an interest in rodeo. Then when I was about 12 or 13 my cousin took me and put me on a couple roping steers. After that I was hooked. I went home and told my dad I didn’t want to play baseball anymore. I told him wanted to ride bulls. When did you know you could make a career out of rodeo? Caleb: Everybody around me was pushing me to be better and telling me how good they thought I was. That gave me the confidence to take this career on professionally. Why did you decide bull riding would be your event?
Caleb: My dad did it, so it was the one event I had the most interest in. I also just love it. It’s something that gives me that itch to keep doing it. I am addicted to riding bulls and think about it all the time. Did you do any other rodeo events growing up? Caleb: I team roped all the time growing up. I never went to rodeos, but we had an arena at the house and roped two or three times a week. Why did you decide to get your PRCA card last season? Caleb: I was one of the older rookies last year, I’m 25-years old now. So, I just decided it was time that I make something of it. I’ve been going to a bunch of bull teams events and making big bull rides, but they didn’t mean anything. So, I decided I wanted to go ride where it mattered and make a name for myself. What did you learn during your Resistol Rookie season?
Caleb: My year was extremely humbling. I started off the year really good and had really high hopes for the year. Then in the middle of the season I got banged up. I got to watching the standings too much and put a ton of pressure on myself, where I didn’t need to be. I had to figure that out in my own way. So, that was one of the biggest things I learned last year. Who’s someone you look up to in the rodeo business right now? Caleb: He’s actually one of my good buddies, but I always like to have a conversation with Trey Holston every time I see him. He’s one of those bull riders where everything about him is professional. I just love the way he carries himself. I look up to him a lot in that aspect. What’s one rodeo you want to win before your career is over? Caleb: I would love to win RodeoHouston, that’s one that I think about a lot. It would have to be either Houston or Pendleton, Ore., for me. What’s your favorite movie? Caleb: I would probably have to say Young Guns . What’s your go-to restaurant before or after a rodeo? Caleb: We like to eat Chick-fil-A a lot. We eat a lot of chicken that’s for sure. What’s the first vehicle you drove? Caleb: It was a 1997 Cadillac that had over 200,000 miles on it. Do you have a favorite candy? Caleb: I like the 100 Grand candy bars quite a bit. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not rodeoing? Caleb: We either like to go golfing or we like to try to do some fishing when we get some downtime. What’s your favorite holiday? Caleb: I would probably have to say Thanksgiving because it brings everybody together. What type of music do you like listening to? Caleb: I listen to a little bit of everything really. I don’t have a favorite type of music. If somebody tells me it’s a good song, I’ll listen to it.
