“Anytime you can . . . get an early lead it just helps coast you throughout the week. There are still four or five more horses for us bareback riders to get on before it’s all said and done. It’s going to take some Aleve, Tylenol and ice from the Justin Sportsmedicine team as well as a lot of prayers to see it through the week.”

Bareback rider Caleb Bennett won the first round at the ProRodeo Tour Finale in Salinas, Calif. He knew it was going to be a battle the rest of the weekend in trying to qualify for the Wrangler NFR.

Sechrist out ... in 7.5 Tie-down roper Bryson Sechrist won the Cowboy Capital of the World PRCA Rodeo in Stephenville, Texas, with a time of 7.5 seconds Sept. 24. The 29-year-old from Apache, Okla., not only posted the top time in Stephenville, he also posted the fastest run of the week of Sept. 20-26. Sechrist earned $2,772 for the win.
