PENDLETON ROUND-UP Hanchey adds to standings lead A season ago, Shane Hanchey watched as Shad Mayfield’s sizeable lead in tie-down roping in the PRCA | RAMWorld Standings diminished over the 10 days at the National Finals Rodeo in Arlington, Texas. While Mayfield held on to claim his first world title by all of $231, Hanchey, the 2013 world champion, won the 2020 NFR average and finished third in the world after earning $143,692 in Arlington. Hanchey knows the bigger lead you have heading to the Finals the better. “I just feel like I’m roping good,” Hanchey said. “I feel like I’m at an age where I’mmentally a lot stronger than I was a couple years ago. We’ll just see how it unfolds in December.” Already leading the 2021 world standings by more than $30,000, Hanchey went out and won the Pendleton Round-Up for the second time. He earned $10,998 after winning the finals in 9.0 seconds and the average in 28.9 seconds on three head. He upped his season earnings to $175,013. “For me, I’ve said it on record before, this is my absolute, favorite rodeo of the year,” said Hanchey, of Sulphur, La. “A lot of that has to do with the luck and success I’ve had. I’ve been able to win it twice now, I’ve won second twice, I was third once. So, I’ve had a lot of good luck here.” As the regular season comes to a close, Hanchey led second-place Mayfield by more than $40,000. “Confidence is such a key thing in this sport. Snedecor makes move with third Pendleton title

Four-time World Champion Steer Roper Scott Snedecor won the Pendleton Round-Up for the third time and first since 2013. Snedecor, who entered the finals with the average lead, locked up his victory with a time of 15.4 seconds in the finals. His three-head average of 43.2 seconds earned him a total of $8,812. “Anytime you win this deal on the grass is outstanding,” said Snedecor, 46. “The first time I won it, I thought it was the coolest thing I’d ever seen. This run here was the third time I’d won it. It’s just like the first time I won it.” Snedecor was the last out in the finals. For him, that was an advantage. “Being the last guy, I can

As the regular season concluded Sept. 30, Snedecor was headed to his 20th National Finals Steer Roping. “I practice quite a bit for that,” Snedecor said. “For about two weeks, I work pretty hard at that. I tie them down at the house, I get in shape and tie them down more on the ground, just get my timing built back up.”
