BY TANNER BARTH & TRACY RENCK Wright continues his record-breaking month The month of September was SIOUX FALLS, S.D
one for the record books for Stetson Wright in the bull riding. During the month, he covered 19 of the 23 bulls he climbed aboard, amassing $141,875 during those 30 days in just bull riding. He capped off the memorable month by winning the Cinch Playoffs Governor’s Cup in Sioux Falls, S.D., Sept. 28-30. Wright captured the title in the four-man showdown round with a 90-point ride on Dakota Rodeo’s Bubba G. “Winning always feels great,” said Wright, a seven-time PRCA World Champion. “I was able to get on two Dakota bulls on the final night, both of them were Chad Berger’s. I was thrilled to have Bubba G in the four-man round. Right out of the chute, he kind of snatched my chin and my rope slid across his back. But I told myself there ain’t no way anything is bucking me off today. I’m getting him rode.” To top it off, Wright rode all four bulls that were ran underneath him in Sioux Falls with an average score of more than 88 points. He said it seems like when the lights are the brightest that’s when he seems to perform his best. “I love these big events. When the money is high, I seem to ride better for whatever reason,” Wright said. “It can really get a guy fired up to go out there and compete. Sioux Falls has been awesome. Rorey Lemmel did a great job putting this on and this is dang for sure one of the coolest events I’ve ever been a part of.” Wright will be chasing the 8th, 9th, and 10th gold buckles of his young career this December in Las Vegas. Headed into the NFR, he leads the PRCA | RAM World Standings in the all-around, saddle bronc riding, and bull riding. With lofty expectations he knows exactly what it’ll take to walk out of the Thomas & Mack Center with the illustrious triple crown. “It’s time to just keep it rolling, we are shooting for $1.2 million this year,” he said. “If you keep winning rounds, they are bound and determined to hand you a gold buckle at the end of it. That’s my plan.”
