BRAD GJERMUNDSON XTREME BRONCS

Brody Wells wins $17,404 at Brad Gjermundson X-Broncs Huge Victory BY BRADY RENCK, Special to ProRodeo Sports News B rody Wells likes to fish, likes to hunt, but not sit. He remains in motion, finishing up college at Tarleton State in Stephenville, Texas, while competing on the ProRodeo circuit. Where some view his life as a relentless day planner, Wells sees endless opportunities. “I like the freedom of it, honestly. You can decide your schedule and dictate your future,” Wells said. “I go nuts if I am sitting around. I am competing in college and pro rodeos all the time. Yeah, it’s a lot. It can get busy. But I love to travel and see new places.” Wells spent a recent weekend in New Town, N.D., showing the potential that makes an NFR berth possible in his future. He started the 2023 season with a rocket great to have this kind of performance,” Wells said. “I was looking forward to this opportunity. It’s a great way to start off the season. But it’s just a start. But the season basically ends a year from now. So, you can’t make too much of it. There’s a long, long way to go.” It is hard to have confidence in sports without results. So, this type of weekend can build momentum for a budding young cowboy. Wells has refined his skills at the college level. He is finishing up his business degree after transferring to Tarleton State. Before graduation, he will compete for the Stephenville, Texas powerhouse. The Texans captured their fourth national crown at the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyo., in June. Wells finished fifth in the finals. “I am going to compete one more season. I want to win a title,” Wells said. “I look forward to it. I will enjoy it.” It’s fitting that Wells is in college. He is a student at heart. He grew up studying in front of the TV, hatching his dream to rodeo for a living. “As soon as I started riding broncs and bought my first bronc saddle, it was the dream,” Wells said. “I would binge watch the NFR performances and the Cowboy Channel. It’s definitely what I wanted to do. And now that, I am out here, it has only made me more determined.” Wells boost, winning the three-head saddle bronc event at the Brad Gjermundson Extreme Broncs with a score of 260. The 21-year-old pocketed with $17,404, clinching the average with 90-point ride on J Bar J’s Straight Moonshine on Oct. 8. “It was an awesome event. They had the music going, and the crowd was into it. It feels
