BY SCOTT KANIEWSKI T eam ropers Turner Harris and Ross Carson have never been to Florida. No surprise, neither have their kids. But Carson’s 8-year-old and 9-year-old sons were in the stands at the RAMBadlands Circuit Finals Rodeo in Minot, N.D., cheering for their dad and his roping partner to somehow come away with a win to earn a trip to the RAMNational Circuit Finals Rodeo in Kissimmee, Fla., just minutes away fromDisney World. On some level, Harris’ 1-year-old son might have been pulling for his father, but the chances looked bleak for the roping fathers heading into the final round. Somehow, Harris and Carson pulled through, the only team ropers to catch all four head at the RAMBCFR, Oct. 5-7, earning them the win and a spot in the RAMNCFR in March. Only three teams had caught three head going into the fourth round, and
Harris and Carson had the slowest time. They figured they would try and catch and get out of town with a third-place check. After they did their job, they watched as the top two teams missed. Harris and Carson took home the title after stopping the clock in 46.4 seconds on four head. They cashed out for $3,753 apiece. “It’s pretty exciting,” said Harris, the duo’s header. “We didn’t see it coming. On our second steer we broke the barrier and had a leg, but we kept catching them. That was our goal the whole time. It panned out for us.” The win is the first RAMBCFR title for Harris. For team roping heeler Carson, it was his fourth circuit finals rodeo win. But the last time he notched a circuit finals win, the national circuit finals were in Oklahoma City, Okla. “Very exciting,” Carson said. “I’ve never even been to the state of Florida. It’s pretty neat to go take the family, make it a little vacation.” TIMETO RANCH,TIMETO RODEO Harris, 30, and Carson, 44, are the definition of circuit cowboys.
