TEAM ROPING-HEADING Horse: RK Tuff Trinket (Bob)
Owner: Riley Minor Rider: Riley Minor
Key 2018 wins: Canby (Ore.) Rodeo, Stampede Days Rodeo (Bakersfield, Calif.), PRCA Last Stand Rodeo (Coulee City, Wash.) Why the horse is great: This 16-year-old American Quarter Horse gelding is versatile and brings a lot of try to the arena. He’s good in all situations; a team roping header can be three seconds on him at the Wrangler NFR where there are short scores or compete well on him at Cheyenne (Wyo.) Frontier Days where the scores are longer. Hear it from Riley: “He’s been second place for Horse of the Year before, and I know he’s a good horse with a few quirks. He’s been a warrior for four years and the main horse I’ve ridden. I have other decent horses now, and I had to use him more than I wanted. But when trying for the Finals, you have to ride your best horse. He’s pretty good in every situation. There aren’t many times in the year he costs me or messes up, it’s mostly on me if I don’t win. I’ve ridden a lot of good horses and I feel like he’s the best one I’ve had and doesn’t make many mistakes. When I’m on him, I’m more confident and I know I’m going to win. This will be the fourth time I’ve made it to the Wrangler NFR on him.” Why the horse is great: Jake Long bought Colonel as a 6-year-old from Oklahoma-based Dixon Flowers Rope Horses eight years ago. Since, the horse has won PRCA | AQHA Horse of the Year three times (2016-18) and has helped Long to six Wrangler NFRs, including this season after Long finished eighth in the 2018 PRCA | RAM World Standings. Hear it from Jake: “Honestly, from the get-go he was like nothing I’d ridden before. He became more solid after that first year of getting to know each other. I don’t have to practice on him, I just need to keep him in shape. A lot of the better horses have been high strung, and that makes them good because they always want to go. But, it’s unique for him to be so laid back and relaxed and still be something you know every time he goes in the box he will be ready to fire. I’ve told everyone he is like a little kid. He gets a lot of cookies and wants to be in the middle of everything. He’s constantly looking for attention and has a playful personality, and he enjoys his job. Every time I hook up the trailer, he watches me, and he is disappointed when he doesn’t get on the trailer. He really wants to be part of the action.” TEAM ROPING-HEELING Horse: Zans Colonel Shine (Colonel) Owner: Jake and Tasha Long Rider: Jake Long Key 2018 wins: Caldwell (Idaho) Night Rodeo
