Muncy, CoBurn Bradshaw, and Jake and Jesse Wright. I learned a lot from them even if it was just for one or two trips, but mostly it was Colt Gordon
so I want to be home for her next year, and I had the opportunity to be gone more this year. What’s the most important lesson you learned during your rookie year? To stay focused and enjoy it because the year goes by really quickly; just enjoy every rodeo and try to do your best. My horsemanship improved this year, and I’m more consistent. How does winning this award impact your future ProRodeo plans? t’s definitely exciting and gives me some drive to continue to rodeo in the future. My goals are to make the steer roping finals in the future and ultimately win a gold buckle. CLAYTON SELLARS AGE : 20 EVENT: Bull riding HOMETOWN: Fruitland Park, Fla. I traveled with. TY HARRIS AGE: 20 EVENT: Tie-down roper HOMETOWN: San Angelo, Texas EARNINGS : $62,752 What does this award mean to you? It was a big goal for me, and something I worked for for a long time. It was a good confidence builder. I’ve worked my whole life to get good at roping, and it was good to see I can compete with those guys and hold my own. CHANCE GASPERSON AGE: Turns 27 on Oct. 28 EVENT: Steer roping HOMETOWN: Bridgeport, Texas EARNINGS: $10,243 What does this award mean to you? It means a lot to me. It’s something I was wanting to do for a while. I decided to rodeo this year because I have a baby girl on the way in January, All-around 1. What’s the most important lesson you learned during your rookie year? Just stay even and don’t get up and down on negatives and positives. Those guys are the best in the world, and they will beat you sometimes.
Definitely keep your head up and don’t over- complicate things. There were times I over- analyzed too much, and you’re going to fall off sometimes so don’t over-analyze it. Just let it
go and get on to the next one. I also know that you can still win enough money and don’t have to go to 150 rodeos. I now know that it’s not always the best decision to enter everything because you can get tired. How does winning this award impact your future ProRodeo plans? It makes me feel like I’m on track and bumped my goals up more and a hair higher. My goal is to make the NFR and be in the Top 5 next year.
