GOODING PRO RODEO GOODING, IDAHO Feild wins Gooding, enters NFR in No. 2 spot In Position

BY KEVIN CARMODY, Special to ProRodeo Sports News F ollowing a $51,000 payday at his first ProRodeo of the 2020 season, Kaycee Feild figured he’d get the best of both worlds the rest of the way by spending more time with his family and competing at fewer rodeos. As it turned out, he did get both, just not the way he drew it up after everyone’s world turned upside down. The four-time world champion bareback rider got his family time thanks to a mandatory shutdown following the coronavirus pandemic then had to scramble late to make his required count of 30 rodeos to qualify for his 11th Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. And as he neared the regular-season finish line, Feild registered a big win at the Gooding (Idaho) Pro Rodeo, Sept. 17-19, following an 89.5-point ride aboard Summit Pro Rodeo’s Game Trail, good for $4,124. “That was a horse I’ve seen (online), but never in person,” Feild said. “I was really excited to have him, especially in Gooding, a rodeo I enjoy going to. For me to win it, it was a really cool win. The committee there worked tirelessly to make that rodeo happen.” Feild, of Genola, Utah, ended the 2020 regular season in second place in the PRCA | RAMWorld Standings with $94,892, a little more than $28,000 behind leader TimO’Connell heading into the Wrangler NFR at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, Dec. 3-12. His score in Gooding was bested only by his 93-point effort that won the shootout round at The American in Arlington six months earlier and gave his season a shot in the arm. He’s not where he wanted to be but is encouraged heading to this year’s newWrangler NFR venue, which is about two minutes from his season’s finest hour at The American at AT&T Stadium, March 7-8. “I wanted to be No. 1; that was my goal,” Feild said. “Every horse that I drew, I got the most out of them that I could, and I have a lot of motivation as I prepare for the NFR.” Now, it’s all about getting healthy, giving himself a mental break and staying positive in the days leading into the Finals. “I usually don’t rodeo in October and November, as I totally focus on getting ready for the NFR,” Feild said. “It’s a big deal to unplug and unwind, not talk about rodeo and not think about rodeo for a few months and get the therapy I need to get everything taken care of. There’s no letting up once the NFR starts. “It’s a new venue. No one has been there, and there’s way more room (than theThomas &Mack Center) for the horses to change directions and circle. There will be big-time adjustments, and I’m confident in myself as I get ready.” IN BRIEF TEAM ROPERS GET ON TOP OF THE BUBBLE Header Brenten Hall and heeler Chase Tryan entered Gooding on the wrong side of the bubble, ranked 16th and 17th, respectively, in the PRCA | RAM World Standings. That all changed after the pair turned and roped their steer in 4.4 seconds to win the title, good for $3,929 each and a season-changing victory. After the dust settled on the regular season, both were unofficially 15th in the standings.
