James Phifer photo Team roping header Tyler Wade, right, and heeler Billie Jack Saebens stopped the clock in 3.7 seconds in Waco, Texas, Oct. 13 to win the Heart O’ Texas Rodeo.
IN BRIEF MOVING FORWARD
“You can’t plan on it ... you just make the best possible run and when it happens, it’s great,” Wade said. Saebens was ready for the quick turn. “We knew that setup was fast, and I know Tyler’s game plan,” Saebens said. “He got a great start, got it on him and my horse worked good. It all came together, and we finished fast.” After several years together, Waco was the swan song for the team’s partnership; they’ll be roping with different partners in 2021 although neither had decided on a new teammate as of publication time. For Saebens, Waco was a late anniversary party. Both he and his wife, Ivy, who married on Oct. 4, 2019, won titles inWaco. Ivy split the win in barrel racing with Victoria Williams. “That was fun, especially after the way 2020 went for us,” Saebens said. “It was a good way to start off the new year.”
Two weeks after miss- ing his 14th Wrangler NFR by just $1,327, Louisiana saddle bronc rider Cody DeMoss earned $3,612 toward the 2021 Wrangler NFR with his 87-point ride aboard Cervi Champi- onship Rodeo’s Roller Coaster.
