He was clocked at 9.9. “The short round was tight, but I went out and took care of business,” he said. “I made sure to get out of the barrier, and my horse (Beyonce) is great, she made the rest of it easy.” Beyonce, 10, is Meged’s trusty mount. He’ll be riding her again at the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in Arlington, Texas, Dec. 3-12. He’ll also be defending his 2019 title at the Finals, won as a rookie. Meged enters the 2020Wrangler NFR in third place with $66,748. The Miles, City, Mont., native (he’s staying at his place in Stephenville, Texas, during the fall) has some ground to make up after Shad Mayfield finished the 2020 regular season with $156,668. But Meged knows there’s plenty of money to be won in Arlington. “I’m really excited for it,” Meged said. “Everyone looks forward to it. It’s a dream come true to head to the NFR. I don’t know how to describe it, but I can’t wait to back into the box at a different venue.”

World Champion is off to a banner start for the 2021 season. Haven Meged won the Roping Fiesta in San Angelo, Texas, Oct. 24-25, to cash in for $7,580. Meged took fourth in the second round with a 10.1-second run, fourth in the finals in 9.9 and won the average with a time of 41.2 seconds on four head. The significant payday launched him to – where else – fourth in the 2021 PRCA | RAMWorld Standings. “Obviously it’s a great jump at the beginning of the season,” said Meged, 22. “And with only three fall rodeos going, to get a win at the San Angelo Roping Fiesta is really awesome.” After the first three rounds, Meged was able to go last in the finals. That gave him the advantage of knowing he needed to stop the clock in 10
