County Fair & Rodeo. Earned $1,382 at the Guymon (Okla.) Pioneer Days Rodeo and $1,315 at the Sandhills Stock Show & Rodeo in Odessa, Texas. Why the horse is great: Martin Poindexter bought Professor three years ago from his friend Junior Livingston in Seymour, Texas. The 10-year-old Professor weighs 1,209 pounds and is 15 hands tall. This was the first time Martin nominated a horse. Hear it from Martin: “I got him when he was 8, and that’s the perfect age to start one for rodeo. It takes about a year to a year-and-a-half to get them seasoned, but he came along fast and I knew he was going to be a great horse. He’s a great horse and a lot of people really like him. I was really wanting to make the finals on him. When I found out he won I was tickled to death, it’s a big honor. When I bought him, Junior said, ‘I think this horse will be a good one,’ and sure enough he was. He was a nice ranch horse – he was broke and bred well. I started hauling him the next year, seasoned him along during the summer. He’s been my No. 1 horse for about two years. He was spot-on all year (in 2020). He’s a big horse, but very athletic, quick and moves well for a big horse. He is very smart and laid back. He just wants to be good. He’s consistent in his score, run and everywhere.
