PRCA ProRodeo photos Layton Green, left, and Ben Andersen, right, sit on the bubble of the Top 15 in the PRCA | RAM World Standings with less than a month to go in the PRORODEO regular season. The duo has six trips to Las Vegas between them.

“The travel we do is kind of a battle. It’s a blessing to have our traveling partners and our boys with us because there’s no way you could do if we were by ourselves,” said Andersen, 24. “We go 16 hours one way, just to turn around and go 18 the other way. Matt Robertson said on his one song, ‘the Top 15 has never seen a weak hearted rodeo man.’ That’s a true statement right now.” You can also do all that driving and sometimes things just don’t go your way. Welcome to the sport of rodeo. Unfortunately, for the Canadian duo they experienced that firsthand at WW Arena. As one of the first cowboys out, Green ran into trouble quickly. His horse scraped the gate coming out of the chutes, which caused the Millarville, Alberta, cowboy to miss his mark out and left him with a daunted no score. “There’s highs and lows in this sport. It’s just one of those deals where I felt like I rode good and made a good ride,” Green said. “If I would’ve spurred my horse out my foot would’ve probably gone through the gate, and I could be

sitting here with a broken ankle too. “You know I’m healthy and I get to go home and see my family for a couple days. So, it’s not all bad.” Andersen managed to put together a qualified ride but lacked the horsepower to push him through to the 8-man finals with an 82-point trip. Both cowboys missed out on a payday but not all hope was lost. As they departed Rapid City that night looking for their next payday the disappointment was evident, but they had no trouble leaving the performance in the rearview mirror as the dream of those yellow bucking chutes was still right in front of them. “It happens, you can’t win them all. You honestly have to forget about them and roll onto the next one,” Andersen said. “We are blessed to be doing what we are doing. A bad day bronc riding is better than a good day working probably. So, we’ll finish up the year strong and hopefully see you guys in Vegas.”
