California Dreamin’ BY TRACY RENCK C hemistry is not easily developed with team ropers. However, the learning curve between new partners Jeff Flenniken and Jake Minor has been quite smooth. Rookie header Flenniken and veteran heeler Minor are making a charge at the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, and they helped their cause in a big way by capturing the Rancho Mission Viejo Rodeo title in San Juan Capistrano, Calif., Aug. 26. The duo clocked a 5.1-second time to win the one-header against a star- studded field of ropers. Flenniken and Minor edged reigning Team Roping Header World Champion Erich Rogers and his partner Clint Summers by one-tenth of a second. “The Top 30 (teams) in the world were there, and 15 were there when we roped (Aug. 26),” said Flenniken, 21. “After we roped, there was still half the

It was cool.” Minor concurred. “My partner did a real good job,” said Minor, 26. “The steer was good, and he gave me a really good go. I was really surprised we ended up winning it. There were a lot of good teams. It was awesome.” As cool as the win was for Flenniken and Minor, the timing could not have been better, as they each earned $9,287. The win pushed Flenniken to 18th in the Sept. 4 PRCA | RAMWorld Standings with $54,570. Minor moved up to 18th in the standings with $54,570. Flenniken also is leading the PRCA | Resistol team roping header rookie standings. “It was great to get that win,” Flenniken said. “That’s something we have needed for the past month. We have been falling behind a little bit. That
