Rodeo. Milan won the three-head average with a 12.4-second time. “I’ve had some luck there in the past, but I had never won it, so it was excellent to finally win it,” said Milan, 35. “This is one of my favorite rodeos in the Northwest, and it was awesome to check it off my list.” For his Ellensburg performance, Milan took home a much- needed $5,325. He was 19th in the Aug. 26 PRCA | RAMWorld Standings but moved up to 14th place in the Sept. 4 standings with $67,881. “That Ellensburg victory could not have come at a better time,” Milan said. “It dang-sure helped my cause. I have about seven rodeos I’m going to the rest of the season, including Pendleton (Ore.), Pasadena (Texas) and Omaha (Neb.). I don’t necessarily like it (being on the bubble). It is what it is, and I just have to keep rolling with it.” Milan has qualified for the Wrangler NFR twice – 2015 and 2017 – finishing sixth and eighth, respectively, in the world standings. A year ago, Milan, dealt with the heartbreak of finishing 16th. He earned $72,957 – $1,749 behind 15th-place qualifier Nick Guy. “Last year I just missed getting back to the NFR, and I certainly want to go back,” Milan said. “You have a chance to win great money there.” In Ellensburg, Milan secured the average win with a 3.8-second run in the finals while riding Rooster, his traveling partner Bridger Chambers’ horse. “Rooster is a good, honest horse,” Milan said. “He’s a winner, that’s for sure. I just wanted to make sure I got a good start in the finals, and he caught up quick.”
