MAGIC VALLEY STAMPEDE FILER, IDAHO Brooks in strong position with season winding down Chase Brooks has made sure the end of the regular season isn’t as stressful as it was last season. The saddle bronc rider fromDeer Lodge, Mont., has had a stellar 2019 season. He added another $3,807 by winning the Magic Valley Stampede with an 89-point ride on Sankey Pro Rodeo & Phenom Genetics’ Big Bay. As of Sept. 4, Brooks was fourth in the PRCA | RAMWorld Standings with $109,760. Last season, Brooks squeaked into the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo when he finished 15th in the world standings, less than $400 ahead of the No. 16 spot. “Last year this time, I was like 17th and busting my butt to try and make it over that bubble,” he said. “It’s a lot nicer this year. I get to relax a little bit and not stress about rodeoing as much as I can.” Being aboard Big Bay helped Brooks in Filer. “I’d seen videos of that horse fromMissoula (Mont.) where Cort Scheer had him for 87.5,” said Brooks, 25. “I knew I had a pretty good shot to make some money. He had an outstanding day. That horse was darn good there. I was lucky to get by him.” Brooks is enjoying the end of this season. “I hated having to bust my butt last year, I didn’t get to really enjoy the rodeo and it was go, go, go, and it was expensive,” he said. “It’s a lot nicer this year, I don’t have to fly all over the place. I can drive myself and hang out at a few.”
