Spears also earned $4,667 at the Magic Valley Stampede, a ProRodeo Tour stop, which concluded Aug. 31 in Filer, Idaho. The Ellensburg and Filer performances pushed him from 20th in the Aug. 26 PRCA | RAMWorld Standings to eighth in the Sept. 4 standings with $109,734. “I’m just trying to do my job and keep my head down,” Spears said. “To win that much money in Ellensburg and Filer in less than a minute in three rides is life- changing. … I came up short of making the NFR last year. That left a bad taste in my mouth and made me realize how bad I want it and made me even more passionate about bull riding.” Spears secured his latest X Bulls win with an 89-point ride in the finals on Big Stone Rodeo’s Spotted Demon, the top bull of the 2018Wrangler NFR. “Spotted Demon is not the easiest bull to ride,” Spears said. “He made me look foolish at the NFR a couple of years ago and wrecked me out, which he’s pretty good doing to guys. It’s pretty much a career-changing event at Ellensburg if you do your job, and I have been blessed to win it twice.” Not only was Spears’ victory beneficial to his bank account, but it also put him in great position to make his fourth appearance at the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas in December and first since 2017.
