NFR, was thrilled to help give Sanchez a day to remember. “I get an appreciation for what I do, and I’m just glad to be here to help these kids,” Elliott said. “It was a very cool, special day for them and me.” John Harrison, a noted rodeo clown and barrelman, agreed with Elliott. “As busy as our schedules are out here (in Las Vegas), this rodeo event right here is the opportunity to stop and step back and truly realize what life is about,” said Harrison, who was helping with the Exceptional Rodeo for his fourth year. “These kids, a lot of the time, don’t have the opportunity to get out and do something like this. So, to let them have the experience of getting on a horse or bull and see their million-dollar smiles, it puts a smile on my face, as well.” Wrangler NFR steer wrestler Ty Erickson also was glad to give back at the Exceptional Rodeo. “This means so much to these kids, and honestly, it means just as much to me,” Erickson said. “To see them smile brightens my day just as much as theirs.” Luncheon, fashion show support JCCF causes For the 31st year, the Pro Rodeo League of Women hosted its style show and luncheon to raise money for the Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund, a nonprofit that provides financial insurance to injured cowboys and cowgirls. So far, the Pro Rodeo League of Women has raised $1.8 million on behalf of the JCCF.

Michael and Paula Gaughan hosted the luncheon Dec. 13 at the South Point Hotel, Casino and Spa, and Tracy Hedeman and Stacey Custer headed the event. During the style show, rodeo contestants’ wives, barrel racer Kylie Weast and saddle bronc riders and brothers Jacobs and Sterling Crawley showcased clothes from Wrangler and Justin Boots. Barrelman John Harrison gave away more than 200 raffle prizes donated by sponsors, rodeo committees, private donors and vendors. “Thank you, Mr. and Mrs. Gaughan for helping us put this on, giving us a beautiful room and fabulous meal,” Hedeman said. “I want to thank you all for coming, we have nearly a sellout crowd this year. We want to keep building this, and hopefully you will all come back next year.” During the live auction, Carla Harrison and Pecos Tatum sold unique, donated items, including a restored register from the 18th century, a custom boot bench and rack, and a George Strait autographed guitar. The PRCA convention silent auction featured more than 160 items donated by PRCA sponsors and rodeo committees. “We are thankful each and every year to have this room full of people who just want to raise money for a good cause,” Custer said. “I know in our life, the Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund was a huge help to us several times in Cody’s (Custer) career. And now, with us having a son who is a full-time professional rodeo cowboy (bull rider Brett Custer), I’m thankful he has something he can fall back on if he ever needs it.” At the end of the event, the Pro Rodeo League of Women presented an $80,000 JCCF check to PRCA
