Gooding, Chase Wiley, Travis Poth, Max Ramsey, Chase Watt, Seth Sawyer, Tyler Holmes and John Merritt. Honorary pallbearer is Gary O’Riley. CODY NELSON LAWRENCE

Cody Nelson Lawrence, a PRCA tie-down roper, passed away Feb. 15. He was 27. Lawrence was born April 17, 1991, in San Antonio to his parents Melody (Holland) and Donny Wayne Lawrence. He graduated from Jourdanton (Texas) High School in 2009 and attended Texas A&MKingsville on a rodeo scholarship. He was employed by his family’s trailer and feed business, Brush Country Supply, in Pleasanton, Texas, and he managed the hunting and cattle operations of the family ranch in McMullen County. Lawrence was a man with a BRIEFS Nelsen tabbed Northeast C.C. rodeo coach Fenton Nelsen was recently named the first rodeo coach for Northeast Community College in Norfolk, Neb. Nelsen, who joined the PRCA in 2014 and competes in steer wrestling and tie-down roping, previously served as the assistant rodeo coach at Missouri Valley College in Marshall, Mo. Nelsen earned his bachelor’s degree in agribusi- ness from Missouri Valley, while a member of the rodeo team. He was a four-time college national finals qualifier in two events and a two-time top-10 college national finals qualifier in steer wrestling. Miles C.C. rodeo coach Badgett retiring The Miles (Mont.) Community College Department of Athletics announced that the 2019 spring season will be the final season for longtime rodeo coach Wally Badgett. Badgett has been with the MCC rodeo program since 1996, when he was the assistant coach. Badgett took over head coaching duties in 2004. In his time as head coach, Badgett has had multiple athletes qualify for the College National Finals Rodeo. He also coached two men’s teams who qualified for the CNFR. Among notables who have passed through Badgett’s program are bull rider Parker Breding, a three-time qualifier for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (2013, 2015, 2018), three-time Wrangler NFR-qualifying bull rider Beau Hill (2002, 2004, 2014), saddle bronc rider Tyrell Smith, a 2012 Wrangler NFR qualifier, and PRCA bareback rider Justin Miller.
