TOPS AT HOUSTON — Feb. 25-March 16 BAREBACK RIDING BY MATT NABER T ie-down roper Michael Otero has been on the cusp of qualifying for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo many times since joining the PRCA in 2003, and the 2019 season already is shaping up to be the year to achieve his lifelong goal, especially after winning RodeoHouston. “I feel like I’ve been living my life right, and things are easier because of

that,” Otero said. “I feel like I’m in God’s favor in helping me draw the right calves and I’m older and more experienced in roping, so that helps a bunch.” He ranked as high as 19th in the world standings in 2015 and has won big rodeos such as Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo Days in Colorado Springs, Colo., in 2012 and the Reno (Nev.) Rodeo in 2015. Now, he’s on a roll, winning $54,250 at RodeoHouston in March and $13,263 at the San Angelo (Texas) Rodeo in February.
