critical midseason adjustments including a saddle change and getting stronger. “I had to refocus and figure out how I could get back to being successful and being consistently successful,” said Cress. “I’ve focused on the process while back at home and it’s been working out.” It paid dividends. In the following months, the 27-year-old announced his presence, finding his way inside the Top 15 of the World Standings. The three-time NFR average winner remains eager for another opportunity to shine in Las Vegas. “I’m ready to rock n’ roll,” Cress said. “I’m attacking it with every expectation that I can chase another NFR average title and a World Title.” In the meantime, Cress has started fast in his 2024 campaign, collecting a split-victory at the Brad Gjermundson Extreme Broncs event in New Town, N.D. The saddle bronc rider topped the leaderboard with Qwint Stroh at 265.5 points on three head, each taking home $10,960. Cress gave the event

his stamp of approval, speaking highly of the chance to compete for big prizes. “It’s the biggest (saddle) bronc match that we get to have in terms of added money. They do a great job getting the best stock there while continuing to try and grow the event,” said the cowboy. “It’s about just taking it one horse at a time. Anything can happen up there, especially when you go from hoppers to the first round and so forth. It gives you a lot of opportunities to win money and do well at it.” For Stroh, the win marks the biggest in his young professional career. The Montana native doubled his career earnings after riding sparingly in his rookie season. However, as Cress stated, a win against a field featuring many NFR qualifiers can carry more value than prize money. “That’s what you want. You want to be riding against the best guys every time because it’s about showing up, doing your job, and being around your buddies,” said Cress. “It’s great to have it that way.”
