STETSON WRIGHT WINS PRCA ALL-AROUND, BULL RIDING WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP By Alex Dodd

T he 2025 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo was a long time coming for Stetson Wright. Ahead of the 2023 NFR, Wright suffered a hamstring injury but tried to stay in the fight for a triple crown in Las Vegas. After two rounds, the injury forced him to bow out and nearly ended his career. Doctors initially told Wright to find another line of work, but he underwent surgery and eyed a comeback in the middle of the 2024 PRORODEO season. He pushed to return and wasn’t quite ready. After a 13-month absence, Wright returned to the arena at the National Western Stock Show and Rodeo on Jan. 17 in Denver. He finished second in the bull riding, picked up checks in saddle bronc riding and made it clear he was back with a vengeance. Wright proved dominant over the course of the 2025 season, qualifying for the Wrangler NFR in saddle bronc and bull riding.

bottom and there was a lot to process, but I just knew that there was no way that it could be over.” Wright finished the year with $940,929 – a new sin gle-season earnings record – just short of becoming the first-ever cowboy to win $1 million in a single season. The mark surpassed his previous record of $928,568 won in 2022. In the all-around, Wright finished with $817,088 to beat Wacey Schalla (bareback, bull riding) by $205,379. The total bested Wright’s previous record of $758,829 set in 2022. After Wright’s return in January, it wasn’t all smooth sailing. In the spring, Wright sustained a head injury during the finals of the Clovis (Calif.) Rodeo and missed time. Then at the Cinch Playoffs at the Puyallup (Wash.) Rodeo in September, Wright suffered broken ribs, a punctured lung and an abdominal injury that cast his status in jeopardy for the Boot Barn Wilderness Circuit Finals Rodeo, and raised some questions about his health for the NFR.

After 10 days in Las Vegas, his comeback was complete and he left the Thomas & Mack Cen ter with the PRCA All-Around World Champi onship and PRCA Bull Riding World Cham pionship – bringing his gold buckle count

But once again, Superman returned. He came back for the Wilderness Circuit Finals Nov. 7-8 in Heber City, Utah, earning the average win in bull riding. “Every gold buckle means something to me, but these two right here, it means a lot because I had to fight back and do

to 10 with no signs of slowing down. “They told me after I tore that ham string a second time to go find a desk job,” Wright said. “I think that’s what means so much to me. I had hit rock

things that I wasn’t supposed to do,” Wright said. “Then all through the year, it was just knockout, punctured lung, broken ribs, just a bunch of beatings I was taking. “But standing here today, it was worth every second of it, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.” After months of hype in the all-around race between Wright and Schalla, the two traded blows in the early rounds. But Wright

When Wright received his two buckles on the stage af ter the NFR, it was a far cry from January, when he sat in the parking lot at the National Western Stock Show and Rodeo in Denver, hoping somebody would turn out to give him a chance to enter as a replacement. “I’ve always got pretty unrealistic goals in my mind,” Wright said. “I always think I can do more than every

body thinks I can. I sat in Denver in the coldest part of the year, freezing to death every day, and just kept walk ing up trying to get a spot. I just knew I needed a chance. “I did get dis couraged because you go from the top of the world and then you get dropped to the bottom,” Wright continued. “You’re trying to walk up when you’ve got eight world titles. It was a little draining on my mind, but at the end of the day, I knew what I wanted to get back to. So I just kept fighting.” Wright won seven total rounds at the NFR between sad dle bronc and bull riding. He now has 23 career NFR round wins. This year, he had four in saddle bronc riding and three in bull rid

began to take con trol as the competi tion progressed. Entering Round 10, all Wright had to do was wait for the bareback riding to come to an end. The 26-year old Beaver, Utah, cowboy had built a big enough lead over Schalla for the all-around title that all he had to do was wait to see where the 20-year old phenom placed in the round. Schalla’s 89.75-point ride on Pete Carr Pro Rodeo’s Resistol’s Secrets Out was good enough for a trip to the pay win dow. But it brought an end to the all-around world championship race before Wright had to get on the back of another saddle bronc horse. The champion ship marked the sixth in all-around for Wright. But he wasn’t done. Wright went on

ing. His seven wins eclipsed his personal record of six round wins at the 2020 NFR at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. ProRodeo Hall of Famer Trevor Brazile, the King of Cowboys, was the last cowboy to capture seven round wins at Finals rodeos. In 2015, Brazile won five rounds at the NFR and two rounds at the National Finals Steer Roping. “It feels really good,” Wright said of being in that company. “And to only be 26, I feel like I’m not that far down (that list). We will see where this takes me.” Zach Alvira and Tracy Renck contributed to this story

to place third in the average for bull riding and secured his 10th world championship – (six in all-around 2019 2023, 2025; three in bull riding 2020, 2022, 2025; and saddle bronc riding 2021) in the process. Those 10 world championships put him in the same conversation as PRORODEO legends. Only Trevor Bra zile (26); Guy Allen (18); Jim Shoulders (16); Dean Ol iver (11); and Everett Bowman (10) have accomplished that feat. Wright’s six all-around world titles tied him with Larry Mahan (1966-70, 1973) and Tom Ferguson (1974-1979).

BRYCE JENSEN THRIVES AT FIRST NFR, WINS ROOKIE RACE By Alex Dodd

O ne of the tightest races in PRORODEO entering the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo Dec. 4-13 was the chase for the Resistol Rookie of the Year honor in bull riding. Four rookies, Hudson Bolton, Qynn Andersen, Bryce Jensen and Luke Mackey, qualified for the sport’s signa ture event. The quartet arrived in Las Vegas separated by $40,560 and with go-rounds paying $36,668 at the NFR – no lead was safe at the Thomas & Mack Center. The four Resistol Rookies showed out on the biggest stage, combining for 22 qualified rides, $543,001 in NFR earnings and two round wins. All four finished in the top seven of the NFR average standings. But when the dust settled, Jensen earned the rookie crown, besting Mackey by $94,122. Jensen finished sixth in the PRCA | Bill Fick Ford World Standings with $367,533. “I did what I could and tried my best,” Jensen told the PRORODEO Sports News. “It worked out well, and I can’t complain.” Jensen arrived in Las Vegas third in the Resistol Rookie Standings for bull riding, trailing leader Hudson Bolton by $22,435. But he didn’t enter the competition with an underdog mindset.

for a special NFR when he earned the Round 4 win with an 87.5-point ride on Barnes PRCA Rodeo’s Purple Wave’s Karaoke Nights. “Getting the round win got the nerves out of the system and then I just started riding and having fun with it,” Jen sen said. “I wasn’t nervous about it because I got the first one knocked out.” The 20-year-old cowboy from Huntsville, Texas, said finishing atop the pack during a go-round in Las Vegas was more than he could have hoped for. “It was a dream come true to go on the stage and take a victory lap,” he said. “The victory lap was cool. Really cool. I wish I got to do more than one, but there’s always next year.” Jensen started his rodeo career on the timed event side, competing in team roping and tie-down roping. But Bradlee Miller helped convince his family to let him get on bulls in sixth grade. He was supposed to stop riding bulls when he got to high school. But Jensen exceeded expectations and made bull riding his primary event. Jensen hoped to compete for the Resistol Rookie All Around crown this year, but it didn’t quite work out. He hopes to win the Linderman Award before his time in PRORODEO is complete.

“I just trusted in the Lord’s process, let it play out how it’s supposed to and just had fun with it,” Jensen said. “I made it there, so that took the pressure off and allowed me just to go have fun and do my best.” Jensen knew he had a chance

Now, Jensen’s sights are set on replicat ing his success in the 2026 campaign. “I’ll keep continuing to ride how I’ve been

riding and have fun with it,” Jensen said. “The pressure of making your first Finals is gone, so I can just have fun with it now. I know I can do it and I just have to believe in myself.”

DRAMA OF THE NFR: WORLD CHAMPIONS BASK IN EMOTION OF 10-DAY COMPETITION By Zach Alvira

T he Wrangler National Finals Rodeo can be grueling. Ten straight days of competition with flip-flop ping standings, the disappointment or triumph of good and bad runs and rides, and the ‘what if’ scenarios adding extra pressure in the late rounds. The Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas every Decem ber has become a place where dreams become reality or fade away. But for eight individuals, the 10 days become worth every second with a new gold buckle to show for it. For some cowboys like tie-down roper Riley Webb, the 2025 NFR provided an opportunity to be immortal ized among some of PRORODEO’s greats.

“(Roy Cooper) and his family have been huge for my career,” Webb said. “To be in his presence and be the first one to do it since him, it’s huge.” From the third straight to the first ever, this year’s NFR provided it all. Barrel racer Kassie Mowry defended her 2024 WPRA World Championship. Her 2025 NFR run came without her prized horse, Jarvis. With the ongoing outbreak of EHV, she chose not to take him to Las Vegas. Instead, she rode Will, her backup horse that she believes would be No. 1 in any other stable. She also utilized a horse named Cornbread. She won rounds 1 and 6 this year and stayed atop the standings with solid runs by the two horses. The emotion of winning another gold buckle came second for Mowry. She was happiest for Will and Cornbread.

Webb secured his third straight world cham pionship this year. He became the first tie down roper since the great Roy Cooper from 1980-84, when he won five in a row, to win three straight. To be in the same

conversation as ‘Super Looper’ was an honor in itself for Webb. Coo per is someone he looked up to as a young cowboy eager to get his foot in the door in PRORODEO.

“I’m just so proud of the horses,” Mowry said. “I had four horses I ran this year. They all got a big win at some point this year. I’m just so grateful, so lucky.”

For years, Statler Wright lived in the shadow of his older brothers. But the 22-year-old cemented himself in PRORODEO history, and joined the Wright family legacy as a world champion. Statler entered the NFR No. 9 in the PRCA | Bill Fick Ford World Standings. Round by round he moved his way up the leaderboard. He won rounds 3 and 6 then rode Flying U Rodeo’s Talk Derby 2 Me to an 89.75-point trip for a win in Round 7. He placed second in Round 9 with an 88-point ride on Dakota Rodeo’s Cash Deal. The rides allowed Statler to take control of the average at the NFR. An 87.5-point ride on Cervi Championship Rodeo’s R. Watsons Ed Bishop in Round 10 secured the average title. He also jumped his brother and three-time PRCA World Champion Ryder Wright by $346 for the PRCA World Championship. Team ropers Andrew Ward/Jake Long joined Statler in winning their first-ever PRCA World Championships. The veteran duo competed in a combined 21 NFRs before winning it all. A 3.9-second run in Round 10 secured the average title and gold buckles. They also set new single-season earn ings records in the process. Steer wrestler Tucker Allen also secured his first gold buckle in Las Vegas this year. He was the most consistent of the bunch, catching fire in the late rounds to pull away in the average.

“I’ve stayed locked in mentally and tried not to feel emo tion,” Allen said. “It didn’t really hit me until I saw (Pro Rodeo Hall of Famer) Luke Branquinho in the hallway. We shed a few tears. It’s been a long time coming.” One never knows what could happen at the NFR. Leads can dwindle away completely or be held onto by a thread. Rocker Steiner was almost the victim of that for the sec ond straight year despite entering No. 1 in the world. In 2024, Steiner went cold at the NFR. In 2025, he missed the pay window on two occasions in the late rounds, opening the door for others like Jess Pope to come within striking distance of the world title. Steiner said after Round 9 he would draw Calgary Stam pede’s Disco Party and win the gold buckle. A 90.5-point ride on the horse in Round 10 and Steiner made good on his promise. He joins his father, Sid (steer wrestling, 2002), and grandfather, Bobby (bull riding, 1973), as a world champion. They’re the first three-generation PRCA World Champion family. “There are so many people that I looked up to that were in my corner and stood behind me and helped me get to where I am now,” Steiner said. “I just want this moment to be a reflection on my family and the help I’ve had.” As the 2025 season closed and cowboys and cowgirls who missed their mark at the NFR regroup, it sets up a new season in PRORODEO that is sure to be filled with more ups and downs. But that’s what makes it special. It’s not just a sport, it’s a way of life.

ROCKER STEINER CAPTURES FIRST PRCA BAREBACK RIDING WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP By Zach Alvira R ocker Steiner could hardly hold back the tears inside the arena of the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas. he saw his lead dwindle away at the NFR. Entering the final night, Jess Pope was on his heels with back-to-back wins in Round 7 and 8, as well as an other trip to the pay window in Round 9.

The 21-year-old Weatherford, Texas, cowboy knew all he had to do was make it to the pay window in Round 10 to capture the world championship, something that had eluded him last season despite entering Las Vegas No. 1 in the world. It was a rough couple of rounds leading up to Round 10 for the human highlight reel. But he stepped up when he needed to the most with a 90.5-point ride on Calgary Stampede’s Disco Party to claim the world championship. “There are no words to describe how one feels after so many years of working for it, dreaming about it, losing it, coming back again, losing it two more times, and finally coming back and sealing the deal and with my whole fam ily here,” Steiner said. “Getting to see my granddad and my grandmother hugging in the stands above the chutes, it’s everything.” Steiner was a man on a mission all season long. He set the new record for most regular season earnings. His lead in the chase for the world title was $81,646. But

Steiner felt the pressure but didn’t waver. He finished the 2025 season with a PRCA single-season bareback riding record of $507,533. But most importantly, the gold buckle. He joins his grandfather, Bobby Steiner (bull riding, 1973), and his father, Sid Steiner (steer wrestling, 2002), as PRCA World Champions and made history in the pro cess. The Steiners are the first family with three genera tions of PRCA World Championships. “I think after my dad won the world, they thought the Steiner rodeo legacy was over,” Rocker said. “Somewhere along the line, the rodeo world called us back, and then I was the one to do it. We get to leave Las Vegas as three world champions. So this is everything I’ve ever wanted.” Steiner finished fifth in the average at the NFR. Sam Petersen’s 88.5-point ride on Picket Pro Rodeo’s Boot Barn’s Night Fight in Round 10 helped him claim the average title.

TUCKER ALLEN’S CONSISTENCY LEADS TO FIRST PRCA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP BY ALEX DODD

T ucker Allen proved to be the hallmark of consistency during the 2025 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. The Ventura, Calif., steer wrestler rode the Nutre na Horse of the Year presented by AQHA, Banker, owned by his hazing partner and fellow NFR qualifier Justin Shaffer, to win his first PRCA World Championship and NFR average title. Allen won both titles on the way to setting a single-sea son steer wrestling earnings mark at $398,913. “God is good. That’s all I’ve got to say,” Allen said. “With him all things are possible. I hope kids can see me and say, ‘You might have been a smaller guy for this event, but if you work as hard as you possibly can and put faith in God, anything’s possible.’” Allen dominated the NFR average, finishing at 46.4

seconds on 10 head – besting Rowdy Parrott by 10.4 seconds. He finished with three round wins and won $248,046 in Las Vegas. Allen said one of the first people he saw when he walked out of the arena was ProRodeo Hall of Fame steer wrestler Luke Branquinho. The five-time PRCA World Champion encouraged Allen to try his hand at bulldogging. “I stay pretty locked in mentally, and don’t let myself really feel any emotion,” Allen said. “And even after win ning the average, it was pretty cool. But I didn’t really break down until I saw Luke Branquinho in the hallway, and we damn sure shed a few tears. “That was a long time coming. He started me bulldog ging. So that was super, super cool to get the job done.”

WARD/LONG EARN FIRST PRCA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS By Alex Dodd E ntering Round 10 of the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, team roping header Andrew Ward and heeler Jake Long needed a few things to go their Ward and Long decided to team up this offseason after roping with different partners last season. This marked Ward’s sixth trip to the NFR and Long’s 15th qualifica tion to compete at the Finals. Their offseason decision paid off, as Ward finished with $373,838 to win the heading title and Long earned $372,092 to win the heeling championship.

way to finish the night with gold buckles. The duo was projected to finish second in their re spective disciplines in the PRCA | Bill Fick Ford World Standings and in the NFR average race. Ward/Long flipped the script Dec. 13 with a 3.9-second run to share a Round 10 win, clinching their first PRCA World Championships and winning their first NFR aver age championship together. “That has a great ring to it. I love the way that sounds, and I’m thankful,” Ward said after being introduced as a world champion on The Chute Bosses podcast. “The big guy was watching out. We drew a great steer, thankful for the family and everybody who got us here and kept supporting us all our lives. I’m just grateful.”

Ward and Long’s earnings are new single-season re cords in heading and heeling, respectively. The duo won the average at 44.0 seconds on nine head, besting Clint Summers/Jade Corkill by 5.7 seconds. “He’s a great partner,” Long said. “He compliments me and gives me everything that I like in a partner. Obviously, he heads great. That’s No. 1. Then he’s just a great guy, a great person and a great human. I’m a little more of an emotional roller coaster, and he keeps me flatlined.”

Stetson and Ryder shared the gary Stampede’s Dandy Delight, respectively. Stat ler finished sixth in the round with an 87.5-point ride on Cervi Cham pionship Rodeo’s R. Watsons Ed Bishop. But it was the final results that Round 10 win with a pair of 89.75-point rides on J Bar J’s Shady Jacket and Cal mattered the most. Statler, the youngest of the bunch at 22, moved all the way from No. 9 to No. 1 in the world,

He taught us how to do it, showed us the way to ride broncs,” Statler said. “It shows he knows what he’s doing because it’s working out. One, two, three in the world. “I’ve always dreamt of walk ing up on that stage and getting the gold buckle and stepping on the back of the bucking chutes. Just being at Thomas & Mack with my brothers is a dream come true.” The Wright family now has 18 PRCA World Championships. Stetson has 10

Ryder finished second and Stetson third. “I’ve only been riding bucking horses for five years,” Statler said. “And to be able to walk out on that stage this year and for them to say I was a world champion, it means the world. I’m just super blessed to be here. It’s hard to put into words how happy I am right now.” Statler’s first world championship came by mere hun

RILEY WEBB WINS THIRD STRAIGHT PRCA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP By Zach Alvira

A ll Riley Webb had to do was rope his calf during Round 10 of the NFR Dec. 13. He entered the final round with a comfortable lead in both the world and average standings. When he left the box on his prized horse, Rudy, fellow tie-down roper Kincade Henry joined other cowboys in cheering on Webb as he chased his third world championship in a row. “Finish what you started,” Henry and the other cow boys shouted. Webb did just that with a 7.7-second run to claim his third straight PRCA World Championship. “I feel great,” Webb said. “The Lord gave me the ability and talent to shine for him. I try to emulate that every day.” Webb placed third overall in Round 10 and won the av erage with 82.3 seconds on 10 head. Over the last three NFRs, Webb is 244.9 seconds on 30 head, an average of 8.16 seconds a calf.

It’s one of the most impressive runs by a tie-down rop er in PRORODEO history. He became the first cowboy since ProRodeo Hall of Famer Roy Cooper (1980-84) to win three consecutive titles. Along with Cooper, Webb joins a short list of tie-down ropers to ever win three or more consecutive titles: ProRodeo Hall of Famer Dean Oliver (5, 1960-64), Don McLaughlin (4, 1951-54); Glen Franklin (3, 1965-68); and Toots Mansfield (3, 1939-41). “It’s special to be the first person to three-peat since Roy Cooper,” Webb said. “Roy passed away this year, but he was so instrumental for me growing up. I was lucky enough to rope with him and his family. It was a huge part of my roping career, and I’m honored to sit along side him in the record books.” Webb set the single-season earnings mark for the sec ond-consecutive year with $555,544.

COLE PATTERSON WINS THIRD STRAIGHT PRCA STEER ROPING WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP BY TRACY RENCK S teer roper Cole Patterson stared down pressure and delivered again. Clinging to a mere $546 lead in the PRCA | Bill Fick Ford World Standings over 2025 Resistol Rookie of the Year Riley O’Rourke, Patterson clocked an 8.5-second time to win Round 10 clocking his 9.1-second run right in front of Patterson - but Patterson didn’t flinch. “You got to sell tickets,” Patterson said. Patterson earned $34,860 at the NFSR, includ ing $5,808 for finishing sixth in the average with a

and capture his third world championship in a row and fourth overall at the Kansas Star in Mulvane, Nov. 15. “I knew I held off (Scott) Snedecor’s charge, and it all came down to me and Riley in Round 10,” said Patterson, 30, whose time was the quickest of his career at the NFSR and the first time he broke the eight-second barrier. A couple of guys slipped up in the average and I had a chance to move up to sixth. I didn’t nec essarily have to beat Riley (in Round 10), but I had to be right on his tail. “He went out there with ice in his veins and clocks (9.1 sec onds) to tie for the

112.8-second time on eight head. O’Rourke finished eighth in the average and just out of the money – it paid six spots – with an 81.0-second time on seven head. Veteran Jess Tierney won the NFSR average for the first time in his career with a 148.3-second time on 10 head. Chet Herren was second with a 129.9-second time on nine head. Tierney and Herren collected $33,684 and $27,876 average checks, respectively. Snedecor ($61,037); O’Rourke ($54,134) and Jake Clay ($50,394) were the top money winners at the NFSR.

Patterson became only the third cowboy to win three steer roping world championships in a row, joining ProRodeo Hall of Famers Guy Allen (1991-2001, 11 in a row) and Trevor Brazile (2013, 2014 and 2015). “No matter whether it is playing checkers or dice or whatever, any time you’re mentioned in the same cate gory as Trevor Brazile and Guy Allen that’s elite com pany,” Patterson said. “Steer roping has a long, coveted history and to join a class of only two other guys to do that is a pretty special feeling.” Patterson’s fantastic finish is note worthy since he only placed in three rounds at the 2025 NFSR - third in Round 4 (10.3 seconds) and Round 9 (10.6 seconds) and then he won Round 10. It also was the second year in a row that Patterson parlayed a clutch Round 10 run to win a gold buckle.

lead in the round (with Slade Wood). I had no option but to just go for it. This feeling that I have right now is the reason that I do this and the reason that I work so hard to get here and be in moments like this be cause this feeling is worth more than any buckle and any amount of money. It feels like you conquered the world.” Patterson finished atop the world standings with $159,940 to edge O’Rourke ($150,670) and Snedecor ($136,141). The phenom O’Rourke tried to etch his name in the PRORODEO history books by becoming the first cow boy in the event’s history to win the world champion ship in his Resistol Rookie year.
