NFR’S TOP STOCK: CALGARY STAMPEDE STOCK SHINES IN LAS VEGAS By Zach Alvira

T he Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas proved to be friendly to Calgary Stampede bucking horses during the 2025 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. The Canada-based stock contractor had 15 horses and one bull selected to this year’s NFR. Four competed in bareback. After 10 rounds, two of the four bareback horses and a saddle bronc horse were named among the top stock of PRORODEO’s biggest event. Bareback horse Disco Party tied Dakota Rodeo’s Wild N Out for first with 180 points on two head. Agent Lynx, another bareback horse, was third with 179 points. Both mares are the daughters of Grated Coconut, a ProRodeo Hall of Fame bareback horse inducted in 2020. Saddle bronc horse Crocket, a 10-year-old who made her first ap pearance at the NFR this year, placed third, boasting a score of 176.5 points on two head. Tyler Kraft, the ranch manager for Calgary Stampede and three-time NFR pickup man, said he was im pressed with the stock’s performance. “All of them are deserving of the award,” Kraft said. “They’ve all sort of played into the top stock of the year, too. And for Crocket to be an older rookie and go out there and place third, she had two good outs, placing both times. So, yeah, it was awesome.” Disco Party was the biggest success story at this year’s NFR.

The 9-year-old, 1,300-pound mare was drawn by Rocker Steiner for Round 10. Steiner saw his lead in the world standings diminish at the NFR and was in desperate need of a trip to the pay window to secure his first world championship. Following Round 9, Steiner predict ed he would draw Disco Party and go out and win the world. It’s a horse he felt confident with. Steiner rode Disco Party for 90.5 points in Round 10. He secured the world championship in the process. “That horse is electric,” Kraft said of Disco Party. “They’re a perfect match for each other so it was fun to watch.” Wild N Out, who tied Disco Party, carried Kade Sonnier to an 83-point ride in Round 3 in its first time out of the bucking chutes. The horse matched with Sam Petersen in Round 8 for 87.25 points. Disco Party’s other qualified ride took place in Round 5 with Jacek Frost for an 86-point trip. Bridwell Pro Rodeo’s Indian Burn was the top saddle bronc horse of the NFR with 179 points on two head. His best ride came with Ryder Wright in Round 9, when the two matched for 86.5 points. The ride helped keep Wright in play for the world and aver age title. He ended up second behind his brother, Statler Wright, for the average title and gold buckle.
