PRORODEO Sports News February Digital Edition

SHORT ROUND

ago. Cedar Gap saw an opportunity and the idea was pre sented to the PRCA Board. The event was sanctioned in a short amount of time and allows all earnings to go toward each cowboy’s place in the PRCA | Bill Fick Ford World Standings, which determines the Top 15 cowboys who make it to Las Vegas for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. “It shouldn’t have took much convincing,” Branquinho said of the PRCA’s swift action to sanction the event. “You have a board that knows there’s Xtreme bulls and Xtreme broncs. Why not have an Xtreme steer wrestling or an Xtreme calf roping or Xtreme team roping? “As long as it falls under the guidelines of a sanctioned PRCA event, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t be able to have it.” The event will take place inside the Taylor Telecom Arena in Abilene. Cowboys will enter the qualifier with the hopes of advancing to the finals two days later. “I think it’s great, especially when you have a business like Cedar Gap Wealth Management that’s willing to put up the money,” Branquinho said. “It’s huge for the sport and huge for steer wrestling.”
