World Championships in 2017 and 2020 and he has qualified for eight consecutive Wrangler National Finals Rodeos from 2016-23. And, at 26, he shows no signs of slowing down. Wright was in top form at San Angelo (Texas) Cinch-Out on April 20 before a sellout crowd Foster Communications Coliseum. Wright clinched this title for the first time in his decorated career with an 88.5-point ride on Pete Carr Pro Rodeo’s Toma Jo in the three-man finals. “This is the first time I have ever made the short round here,” said Wright, whose father is ProRodeo Hall of Fame saddle bronc rider Cody Wright. “It feels awesome to be able to come here and get on good horses and come out with a win.” The format of the Cinch Chute-Out had 10 contestants in each event competing in a first round with the top three finishers advancing to the championship round. Wright placed second in the 10-man round with an 88-point ride on J Bar J’s Gronk, setting the stage for his third career ride aboard Toma Jo. In finals, Wright edged out Logan Hay and Lefty Holman for top honors. “This was as good a place as any (in San Angelo) to have a big win on that horse,” Wright said. “In the finals, it was awesome, especially with them running three great even horses in. It then became a riding contest and luckily it worked out in my favor.” Wright, who earned $7,500 for his victorious eight-second ride, was thrilled to walk away as the champion of this event, which was in its 12th year. “This is huge,” he said. “Anytime you can come to these bigger spring rodeos (and win), it is a huge boost in confidence, and this was not too bad in the bank account either.” With his Chute-Out earnings, Wright placed himself seventh in the PRCA | RAM World Standings with $51,489. “What gets me up in the morning is for moments like these,” Wright said. “This is how I take care of my family and I love to do it and I love to do it alongside my brothers. “If I can win a third buckle that would mean everything, but I’m not shooting for three. Every year I want one. I want to be the best that has ever done it and I will just keep cracking away at them.”
