SAN ANGELO, TEXAS

Walker, Reeves split steer wrestling crown All it takes is one win for a cowboy or cowgirl to get their

ProRodeo careers off the ground. Cole Walker experienced that moment on April 19 at the San Angelo Stock Show & Rodeo. Walker split the steer wrestling win at the PRCA Playoff Series rodeo with eight-time NFR qualifier Matt Reeves. The duo finished tied atop the average with 12.8 seconds on three head. The win moved Walker to the No. 1 spot in the Resistol Rookie race and just outside the Top 15 of the PRCA | RAM World Standings. The Springtown, Texas, native admitted there were nerves headed into the short round. “It’s an honor to split this win (with Matt Reeves). I’m truly blessed to even be put into this situation. My plan going out there was to do my job,” said, Walker, 21. “That came down to knowing my steer and trusting the horse that I ride. I was on Cade Staton’s horse FedEx in the short round. There were definitely some nerves. I just had to relax, reset, and do my job.” The veteran Reeves has a different approach to the 2024 season. He has competed in just three rodeos so far in the new year. His latest performance resulted in the biggest payday. Reeves pocketed $10,154 for his three runs. “To get a win like this is awesome. I’m a lot closer to the end than I am the beginning like Cole is in his career,” said Reeves, 45. “It’s fun to come out here and play. I’ve only been to three rodeos so far this year. “It’s fun to see the kids do well and it’s great to see how much money has come into this rodeo since I began my career. I have a gold card now. So, I’ve been coming to San Angelo for quite a while.” This type of win not only provides Reeves and Walker with a bump in the Playoff Series standings but gives them money to comfortably go down the road as the season nears a key stretch. “This will allow me to get a little money together and hopefully keep the momentum going in the summer run,” Walker said.
