Veteran bull rider Trey Benton III, a seven-time Wrangler National Finals Rodeo qualifier, knew he had let some grand opportunities slip through his grasp this season. Well, that didn’t happen at the Utah Days of ’47 Rodeo in Salt Lake City. Benton seized the moment – winning the rodeo with a 90-point ride on Sankey Pro Rodeo & Phenom Genetics’ Arctic Assassin. “I rode a really tough bull (in the first round) of (H.D.) Page’s and that gave me all the confidence coming into the finals,” said Benton, whose most recent appearance at the Wrangler NFR was 2021. “Man, I let this winter get away from me. I made every short round and did not capitalize.

I knew it couldn’t get any worse than that. The (ride) felt so good. I saw the bull ride the whole time and I reacted and never had to think about what I needed to do and cashed out.” Benton acknowledged the eight seconds aboard a bull has many layers for a rider. “It is bull riding, and everybody does it differently,” Benton said. “You can make it mentally and physically as difficult as you want, but you just have to be prepared when you show up at a place like this.” Benton won the first round in Salt Lake with an 88.5-point ride on D&H Cattle’s Pearl Snap Fever. That set the stage for his 90-point gold medal-winning ride.
