PRCA Cowboys recall when it really was their first ProRodeo The Beginning COWBOYS LOOKING BACK

BY MATT NABER T his ain’t my first rodeo” is a cliché that’s often tossed around for a whole lot more than rodeo. But at some point, every ProRodeo cowboy really does compete at his first rodeo. Saddle bronc rider Allen Boore’s first ProRodeo was about 10 years ago, and he remembers most of the details. Tie-down roper Ryan Jarrett has been competing at the pro level for 20 years, and he remembers his early wins. And for steer roper Rocky Patterson, it’s been 30 years since his first ProRodeo, but the game remains the same. ProRodeo Sports News chatted with these three about their first goes in ProRodeo.

What do you remember about your first ProRodeo competition?

Oh, that was so long ago, I can’t remember. My first would have probably been either Odessa or Pecos, Texas. I was on my permit, so it would have been about 1991. I didn’t have enough experience to know what it would be like. I remember riding around the arena and there being a bunch of guys in there wearing NFR coats. I might have been a little intimidated, but I was probably more nervous than confident. I don’t think I placed there.
