Garrett was named Great Plains Region

Nokes was born on Nov. 21, 1975, in McCook to Ray and Brenda (Bolen) Nokes. He graduated in 1994 fromMcCook High School. He rodeoed in college at Panhandle (Okla.) State University and helped lead the team to back-to-back national championships. Nokes began rodeoing in the PRCA in 1996, winning all-around honors at Cheyenne (Wyo.) Frontier Days and the National Western Stock Show and Rodeo in Denver. At the 2005 NFR, Nokes won Round 1 with a 3.6-second time. Nokes and his wife, Laura, were married on May 17, 2003, and bought the farm he grew up on. Their first son, Trevor Ray, was born Dec. 29, 2004, followed by Parker Wade on April 21, 2008. In 2014, Nokes became the timed-event head coach for Mid Plains Community College. His team won the Great Plains region title in 2016-17.

Nokes is survived by his wife and sons Trevor and Parker; father, Ray (Pam) Nokes; mother, Brenda (Stephen) Morell; brother, Justen (Ashley) Nokes; step-brother, Jeff (Sheryl) Hager; step-sisters Brooke Hager, Elizabeth Morell and Katherine (Matt) Johnson; grandmother, Marlene Bolen; and mother-in-law, Mary Ann Ebmeier. Nokes was preceded in death by his grandparents: Mel and Nada Nokes, Bill Bolen, Rex and Avis Morell, Lester andWanda Malleck; and father-in-law, Darold Ebmeier. Funeral services were at Kiplinger Arena inMcCook, Feb. 20. Nokes was interred at Memorial ParkCemetery. away Feb. 14 after a horse accident. He was 45. Nokes finished fourth in the 2005 world standings with $127,775. He earned $740,031 in

his PRCA career, $440,113 in steer wrestling, $279,803 in tie-down roping and $15,170 in team roping.

Members of the Buffalo PRCA Championship Rodeo take part in the Kites on Ice Festival in Minnesota, Feb. 13. Minnesota rodeo committee hands out free tickets for kids Members of the Buffalo PRCA Championship Rodeo Committee participated in the third annual Kites on Ice Festival, Feb. 13. The festival provides a creative way to chase away the winter blues by embracing outdoor activities on frozen Buffalo Lake in Minnesota. Minnesota’s oldest ProRodeo will celebrate its 66th anniversary June 24-26. Complimentary children’s rodeo tickets were handed out to attendees. Miss Rodeo Minnesota Samantha Sansevere and Miss Rodeo Buffalo Leah Andersen along with committee members answered rodeo questions and showed their roping skills.
