I’m looking forward to being back out there as soon as I can.” A handful of other cowboys suffered injuries at the NFR and are expected to miss extended time headed into the 2022 ProRodeo season. Steer wrestling Cody Devers battled injuries throughout the entirety of the NFR after suffering a torn right pectoral muscle in Round 1. Devers continued to compete over the next four rounds, but ultimately pulled himself from the rodeo after Round 5. Devers underwent surgery on January 3 to repair his pectoral muscle, he said the injury will keep him out for at least six months. Saddle bronc rider Wade Sundell is also recovering after fracturing his spine before Round 5 of this year’s Finals. Sundell was bucked off while carrying the Iowa flag in the Grand Entry. At the time of the injury the 2018 PRCAWorld Champion told ProRodeo.com he expected to be out 8-12 weeks.

“I don’t want to come back this time with an arm that isn’t completely healed,” Boquet said. “We are going to let it heal, shoot for an April return, and hopefully come back stronger than when I left at the NFR.” Bullfighter Dusty Tuckness will start the new rodeo season on the injured list as well. Moments after Braden Richardson’s winning 89-point ride on Sankey Pro Rodeo & PhenomGenetics Bouchon in Round 9, Tuckness suffered an open fracture after the bull stepped directly on his left leg. He left the arena on a stretcher and was taken to a local hospital for surgery that night. “It was devastating to go out in Round 9, I mean that’s what you work towards all year long, but it’s part of the job too,” Tuckness said. “But I know I’ll be back out there and be ready to go again before too long.” Tuckness is already preparing to be back in the arena this season, but knows it’ll take time to get back to 100 percent health. “The leg is feeling good, you just have to be patient with an injury like
