Outside of the arena his impact on rodeo was also felt, he was a founding member of the Kittitas County Roping Club. He also was a rodeo coach at Eastern Oregon University where his most notable athlete was National Finals Rodeo bull rider Myron Duarte. Powers was in on the ground floor of forming the PRCA’s Columbia River Circuit, serving a term as its manager. At the end of his rodeo career, his favorite memory was the year he competed on the Columbia River Circuit with his son Terry Powers, his father Clyde and his nephew Jim Powers. A rare occurrence for three generations to be competing simultaneously at PRCA rodeos. Powers is survived by his wife, Angie. His son, Terry and ex-wife Sheri; and daughter Tami Powers; stepdaughter Megan (Greg) May and granddaughter Mackensie Marie Hammond; sister Lusetta (Wayne) Norman; brother Tom Powers as well as numerous nieces, nephews and great friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Gaylene Powers. Memorials may be made in Powers’ name to the CRC crisis fund at CRC, 80781 North Ott Rd. Hermiston, Ore., 97838.

In 1961, Daines built the Daines Ranch rodeo grounds north of Innisfail, where the Daines Ranch Pro Rodeo has been held for more than five decades. Gold Card member, passed away Oct 15, 2021, in BirminghamAla. He was 83. Powers was born on March 11, 1938, to Clyde and Laurena Powers in Toppenish, Wash. His relationship with horses and roping started at a young age with many hours spent in the arena with his father. He competed successfully for many years in the PRCA in tie-down roping and steer wrestling winning or placing in all the major rodeos in the northwest, his favorite being winning the all-around title at the Omak (Wash.)
