Jorgensen hits paydirt in Calgary

Stetson Jorgensen has competed on ProRodeo’s biggest stage. He finished second in the world last season at the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. But arguably one of the biggest moments of his career came at the Calgary Stampede July 18. Jorgensen capped his 10-day stay north of the border by winning the steer wrestling with a 4.7-second run on championship Sunday. “It was my first time up to Calgary, and they call it the greatest show on dirt for a reason,” said Jorgensen, 28. “In a rodeo like that you have all the fans in the stands, you can feel the noise, all the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. I thrive off all that adrenaline the crowd brings, I love it. I think (my horse) Mable does too, she worked amazing during those high-pressure points.” The win in Calgary earned Jorgensen $57,000, with $29,900 of that going toward the PRCA | RAMWorld Standings. The big payday bumped

him inside the top 10, as he looks to make it three consecutive Wrangler NFR qualifications. “That just builds up my confidence, I had confidence going into Calgary, and I’m leaving with even more confidence,” Jorgensen said. “Getting back out on the road I need to maintain that confidence and keep making good runs and keep that momentum going.” In his two years at the NFR, he’s finish third (2019) and runner-up (2020) in the world. He said the tight competition this year can lead to anything happening inside the Top 15 come December. “With 15 guys going to the Finals, I think all the Top 15 have legitimate shots at being a world champion with so much money being handed out at it,” Jorgensen said. “My goal is to make the Top 15 and give myself a chance, then you have to take advantage with good runs, and it will all work itself out in the end.”
