Cody Huber when his grandfather, Kenny Huber, one of the most influential people in his roping career, passed away, May 26. He was 87. “He was one of my biggest supporters,” said Huber. “He was still out there roping with me at 87 years old.” Now, Huber is taking the knowledge and memories from his grandfather on the road with him. And his grandfather would be proud. Huber’s most recent title comes from the SheridanWYO Rodeo, where he won $4,670 with by winning the two-head average with a 16.2-second time. That time was split evenly between his two 8.1 second runs, making him the most consistent cowboy in the field. “I knew both (calves) were good,” said Huber, who also collected valuable ProRodeo Tour points for his performance. “So, I just scored. I got them roped and went from there.” In a close field, with multiple ties to place in both rounds, consistency is what brought home the prize. After his win in Sheridan, where he left town with a rodeo-best $9,678, Huber was sitting 20th PRCA | RAM World Standings with $36,542. It is the highest he’s been in the standings in his seven- year PRCA career, and he would love to make his Wrangler National Finals Rodeo debut in 2021. Though it’s every cowboy’s dream to compete at the Wrangler NFR, earning a spot would have some extra value for Huber . whose dad, Bill qualified twice for the NFR in tie-down roping. “My dad made the NFR in 1994 and 1996, so it’s something that I’ve always wanted to do, and I’ve always worked hard at,” Cody said. Growing up in a rodeo family made success possible, said Huber.
