California Rodeo Salinas announces 2018 HOF selections California Rodeo Salinas announced its 2018 Hall of Fame class. The inductees are committee member Allan Wallace (posthumously); contract personnel Frank V. Borba (posthu- mously), and contestants Casey Tibbs, Harry Tompkins and J.C. Trujillo. Tibbs, Tompkins and Trujillo are members of the ProRodeo Hall of Fame. The class will be honored July 19 during an induction luncheon at the Salinas Sports Complex from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. (PT) on the Mike Storm Directors Patio at 1034 N. Main Street. Rodeo Salinas takes place July 19-22. Pendleton Round-Up and Happy Canyon Hall of Fame announced Pendleton (Ore.) Round-Up and Happy Canyon Hall of Fame announced its 2018 inductees. This year’s honorees include bareback bucking horse Smith & Velvet, tie-down roper Brad Goodrich, long-time Round-Up volunteer Bill Dawson and Native American Janie Pond (posthumously), who twice served as a Happy Canyon Princess. Smith & Velvet made his last appearance at the Round-Up in 1982, when he carried World Champion J.C.

Trujillo to the bareback riding crown. In 1983, the horse was killed in a truck-and-trailer accident. Smith & Velvet was inducted into the ProRodeo Hall of Fame in 2017. Goodrich, of Stanfield, Ore., was the all-around and tie-down roping champion at the 2004 and 2008 Round- Ups. He made the finals 25 of the 30 years he competed. Dawson has been a Round-Up volunteer for more than 50 years, beginning on the hay crew and later working on telecommunications. Pond grew up in eastern Oregon and spent most of her life on the Umatilla Indian Reservation. The Frank Wallace Family, Jake Barnes, Clay O’Brien Cooper and Kay Forbes Hageman (posthumously) will be inducted into the Ellensburg (Wash.) Rodeo Hall of Fame (ERHOF), committee chair Ken MacRae announced. The induction banquet is Aug. 30 at 5:30 p.m. (PT) at Central Washington University’s Student Union Recreation Center Ballroom and will also spotlight ERHOF’s “Shades of Fame” Western art auction and fundraiser. Tickets for this year’s Hall of Fame Banquet are avail- able online at www.ellensburgrodeohalloffame.com, where supporters may reserve tables in advance.
