Laye won the Wainwright (Alberta) Stampede, June 24, with a two-head average of 172.5 points. Cashing in for $4,442 moved Laye up to 16th in the RAM | PRCAWorld Standings with $31,230 as of June 25. It was the second time he had won the Wainwright Stampede. Growing up in Cadogan, Alberta, about an hour fromWainwright, made winning the rodeo for the second time nearly as special. “That’s probably the closest hometown rodeo to where I grew up,” said

Laye. The bareback rider stormed into his first Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in 2015 and placed in four rounds. He finished 10th in the world, winning $62,038 at the Wrangler NFR for a season total of $142,346. He was ready to go for 2016, but a neck injury slowed him down in the winter, before the big blow – a broken elbow in May at Helldorado Days Rodeo in Las Vegas.
