BY TRACY RENCK J ordan Pelton wanted to try bareback riding. The fact that he knew nothing about the sport rang clear the first time he tried. At 16, Pelton attended ProRodeo Hall of Fame bareback rider Wayne Herman’s rodeo school. The level of concern for Pelton rose quickly with Herman.
“He didn’t know anything about bareback riding when he started,” said Herman, who won the 1992 PRCA bareback riding world championship. “The first time I saw him at my school I was hoping and praying he would just get through the school without getting hurt really bad.” The hard-headed Pelton came back to three more of Herman’s schools and kept improving. “No one else in my family rodeos,” Pelton said. “I got
