DRAWS

Stock Talk

Cort Scheer won Round 2 of the 2018 Wrangler NFR on Hi Lo ProRodeo’s Larry Culpepper. Now, the bronc is likely to buck at the RAM NCFR, and Dalton Kingery from the Great Lakes Circuit hopes to draw him while in Kissimmee.

BY MATT NABER T here’s no right answer when discussing which draw is the best for any rodeo, but the conversation never ends on which bull and broncs are packing the most punch. With the RAMNational Circuit Finals Rodeo running March 21-24 – and more than $750,000 on the line – the top circuit cowboys from across the country will be heading to Kissimmee, Fla. ProRodeo Sports News talked to some of the roughstock riders about their thoughts on what stock they would like to get on when they get down to Kissimmee. TIM KENT Bareback rider – First Frontier Circuit Who do you want to draw? That’s a tough call. There are a lot of good horses coming, and any one of them can be good any day. I’ve won more money on Cowtown Rodeo’s Togenberg and I got on Vold Rodeo Co.’s Excalibur last year and did good on him. I’d like to get on OutlawWoman of Hi Lo ProRodeo Company or maybe 1199 (Painted Pony Championship Rodeo’s Jesse Strawberry) or (Vold Rodeo Co.’s) Little Linda. What makes them special? OutlawWoman and 1199 I’ve seen before, and they look like horses I Kent

would really get along with. They usually win on those – they really bucked and were electric. Of all the ones I heard, I think Vold Rodeo’s Little Linda is the best. She fits me the best, but then again, I’m not the best one to ask because I’m a circuit cowboy. Last year, I got on a horse I had never heard of or seen before, Excalibur, and I was pleasantly surprised. When I get done, I said, ‘Wow, I enjoyed that one.’ They do a good job of making it even, even though it’s hotter in Kissimmee. It can still be a drawing contest, you never know what you’ll end up with. But that’s rodeo, we’ll throw our hat in the ring and not know what we’ll get. We call it intermittent positive reinforcement, it makes rodeo more addictive. It’s more addicting than if you win every time.
