Tommy Hadley, a longtime Phillipsburg, Kan., rodeo committee member, passed away April 6. He was 71. Hadley was a bareback rider and bull rider who competed on his PRCA permit and in open rodeos in the 1970s and ’80s. He served for 23 years on the Kansas’ Biggest Rodeo committee in Phillipsburg and finished 18th in the world in the bareback riding in the National Senior Pro Rodeo Association when he was in his 40s. Hadley is survived by his wife, Mildred; children Kevin Hadley and Robbie (Tyler) Asher; son/nephew Travis (Alyssa) Stites; and six grandchildren. Greeley Stampede announces four for HOF Through a community nomination process, the Greeley (Colo.) Stampede selected four outstanding individuals to be inducted into the Greeley Stampede Hall of Fame on May 21. This year’s inductees include: Earl Anderson, an influential within the sport of rodeo and the Stampede’s rodeo stock contractor from 1931-58; Nyla Bristow, a former Miss Independence Stampede Queen, a 40-plus-year Wrangler volunteer member who was instrumental in the construction of the west arena grandstands project; and Dick Lookhart, a founding member of the Wrangler volunteer organization and a former Greeley Stampede Committee member who was known for spending endless hours supporting the event. The Greeley Stampede will host a banquet May 21 at Zoe’s Café at 6 p.m. (MT) for the inductees. Individual tickets for the event are $25 or a table of eight for $160. Southwestern Exposition and Livestock officials The board of directors of the Southwestern Exposition and Livestock Show in Fort Worth, Texas, elected officials April 27. Officers elected by the board to serve for the current year include chairman of the board Edward P. Bass; vice president Charlie Geren; secretary Elaine Agather; treasurer Randy Rodgers and president/general manager Bradford S. Barnes. Agather, who also serves on the organization’s executive committee, fills a vacancy left by the recent death of longtime stock show leader Charles B. Moncrief. Elected to serve as Sr. Executive Vice President is Matthew R. Carter. Carter, 44, will join the Stock Show’s full-time staff working with Barnes overseeing the organization’s daily operations and 20 full-time staff members. Seven members of the board of directors were elevated to Honorary Vice President status: George Beggs IV; Stephen L. Brotherton; Jim Calhoun Jr.; A.V. (Scott) Corpening III; W. Craig Doyle; Robert M. Lansford; and James Link. Twelve new board members were also elected: Lorene Agather; Allen Crumley; Clay Gilmer; Darren Henken; J. Bryan King; Kelly Lynch; Warren E. The board approved the nomination of four new members to the organization’s executive committee: Kit Moncrief; Trent Prim; Scott Kleberg; and Doug Cassidy. Phillipsburg Rodeo group makes donation On May 10, the Phillipsburg (Kan.) Rodeo Association made its annual donation to the Fort Hays (Kan.) State rodeo program. Two members of the FHSU rodeo team – Brody Davis of Cody, Neb., and Jessi Ross of Falcon, Colo. – each received $500 sponsorships from the Phillipsburg Rodeo Association. Davis, a junior, will graduate in May 2022 with a degree in ag business. A tie-down roper and team roper, he competed in the Nebraska High School Rodeo Association, qualifying for the state high school finals three times. Davis has been on the Dean’s List at FHSU. Ross, a sophomore, competes in barrel racing, breakaway roping and team roping. She competed in the Colorado High School Rodeo Association and qualified for the state finals twice. At FHSU, she is studying agribusiness and hopes to be involved in livestock nutrition or livestock insurance. Since 1997, the Phillipsburg Rodeo Association has made an annual donation to the FHSU program. The Phillipsburg Rodeo Association is the organization behind Kansas’ Biggest Rodeo, which will be Aug. 5-7.
