Bubba Boots is a great rodeo name. Is Bubba your real first name? Bubba: No. It’s Teigen. I think the last time I was called Teigen is when my mom was mad at me when I was little. I just got the nickname Bubba when I was little, and I really don’t know why but it stuck. I like the name. It seems weird if someone calls me Teigen. How did you get involved with rodeo? Bubba: My parents. They always rodeoed, and I just kind of fell into it and decided I liked it and stuck with it. My dad (Aaron) was a steer wrestler in the PRCA, and my mom (Jodee) was a breakaway roper. I started going to junior rodeos when I was around 5 years old, and my parents hauled us around and made it pretty easy. I have a sister, Makayla, 24. How has this season gone for you? Bubba Boots, a 22-year-old from St. Anthony, Idaho, is having a solid rookie season. He’s third in the PRCA | Resistol Rookie Standings as a steer wrestler with $5,028. He stands 6-foot and weighs 160 pounds. He bought his PRCA card in December 2018 after rodeoing on his PRCA permit for three years while he was rodeoing in college. COWBOY GRILLE WITH TRACY RENCK

Bubba: It has been decent. This was my first year going to winter rodeos, and I had a pretty decent winter. It has been a little bit slower this spring, but it has been a lot of fun. I’m traveling with Baxtor Roche (the younger brother of steer wrestler Baylor Roche, a

three-time qualifier for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo). It’s great traveling with Baxtor. He’s smart about stuff, and I live down there with them (in Tremonton, Utah). I practice with him and Baylor. What do you and Baxtor do to pass the time on the road? Bubba: We’re terrible golfers, but we like to go for the social aspect. Both of us are horrible. Neither one of us have hit anybody (with a ball) on the course, but it might come to that. What’s your favorite rodeo you have been to? Bubba: Fort Worth (Southwestern Exposition and Livestock Show in Texas). It was kind of my first time going to a big winter rodeo, and there was so much going on there. I ended up winning pretty decent there. The rodeo I’m looking forward to going to most is Cheyenne (Wyo.) Frontier Days. I think it will be a blast. Where did you college rodeo? Bubba: Northwest College in Powell, Wyo. I steer wrestled, was a tie-down roper and a team roping header for the team there. I went to the College National Finals Rodeo all three years I was in Powell. My first year I made it in steer wrestling, my second year I made it in all three and my third year I made it in team roping and bulldogging. When I made it in all three events my second year, I was the reserve all-around champion. I also got my welding certificate. It has been my dream to be a PRCA cowboy. What horse are you using? Bubba: I have my own horse, a roan horse, that I’ve had for two or three years. His name is Mike, and he’s 12. Steer wrestling is my favorite event. It gets my heart pounding, and I love it. What’s your favorite restaurant? Bubba: Jakers Bar and Grill. When I’m there, I get steak and shrimp. My favorite dessert is strawberry cheesecake. Who is your go-to music group? Bubba: Nickelback. What actor would you choose to play you in a story about your life? Bubba: Mark Wahlberg. I have always liked his movies, and he seems like an inspirational guy. My favorite movie is “Shooter.” I’ve seen that movie too many times to count. What’s your biggest pet peeve? Bubba: Unmatching socks. I hate it. It drives me crazy. I can’t wear them, and if I see somebody wearing unmatching socks it drives me crazy. Who is your favorite sports team? Bubba: The Green Bay Packers. (Quarterback) Brett Favre was my favorite player. Did you do any other sports besides rodeo growing up? Bubba: I wrestled in high school. I was third in state my freshman year, and my sophomore year I took second. I wrestled at 98 pounds both years. My senior year I broke my neck wrestling. I double-legged this kid, and I was running him down. He had his hand over my head and drove my head straight into the mat, and it broke my neck. Have you ever used a payphone? Bubba: No. I think I saw a payphone at the airport in Denver this year. It was my first time flying, and I was a lost son of a gun. What form of social media do you use most? Bubba: I’m a big-time user of Snapchat. Who would you pick to win a fight between Clint Eastwood and Chuck Norris? Bubba: Chuck Norris for sure. He’s a bad man.
