STOCKYARDS NATIONAL HISTORIC DISTRICT While in town for the Finals, come and visit the Stockyards to experience the true AmericanWest. Filled with historic buildings, Western cuisine, stores and museums, the area has recently undergone a Western renaissance, said MitchWhitten, executive vice president of marketing for Visit Fort Worth. “Visitors to the NFR will be among the first to experience the new Stockyards – the centerpiece of it is called Mule Alley,” he said. “It’s just one part of the Stockyards but is where the Hickman family and Stockyards Heritage have saved hundred-year-old horse and mule barns and turned them into new spaces. They’ve started to open some of the shops and restaurants over the last few months.” Visitors at the Stockyards can also check out the historic cattle drive on Exchange Avenue that occurs at 11:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. daily. “You can watch the Fort Worth Herd and see what it was like to try and move cattle, which really put Fort Worth on the map back in the 1860s and ’70s,” Whitten said. Visitors can enjoy live music at honky tonks in the district, check out the Cowtown Christmas exhibits or take a ride on the Ferris wheel that will specifically run when the Wrangler NFR is in town. “The Stockyards, like the zoo, has a lot of space to walk around, with open air and where you can easily socially distance,” Whitten said. “We’ll have a hospitality team in red jackets handing out free masks and bandanas, hand sanitizer and helping folks with directions and information. We’ve been working as a community to bring back events in a safe, responsible and healthy way.” For more information visit www.FortWorth.com/NFR
