IN BRIEF HESSMAN WINS BULL RIDING

MATHEWS TOPS IN TIE-DOWN Tie-down roper Cooper Mathews, 21, captured the title in Omaha with a 7.7-sec- ond run. The victory earned the Cleburne, Texas, cowboy $3,643. Mathews edged Lane Livingston by one-tenth of a sec- ond for the title. The 2019 season was Mathews’ rookie year.

Tyler Hessman had an 86-point ride on The Cervi Brothers’ Jack Hammer to claim the victory and earn $3,837. Hess- man, 26, is from Beaver, Okla. He joined the PRCA in De- cember 2015. He had his best season to date in the PRCA in 2019, earning $14,280. Before 2019, Hessman had $24,966 in PRCA career earnings. Hessman was the third cowboy to make the whistle on Jack Hammer.
