Starting as a family business in a one-room, dirt- floor shop in the backyard, it has become one of the largest farm, ranch and rodeo equipment manufacturers in the world, with a production facility that includes more than 20 acres under roof. In 1964, Marvin Priefert invented the first gliding- action, fully opening headgate. Now, 55 years later, led by Marvin’s son, Bill, and grandsons Eddie, Nate and Travis, Priefert Manufacturing has grown into the most respected name in farm, ranch and rodeo equipment. Peterson is survived by his wife, Frances; daughters Jennifer Scholl (Jack), of Spearfish, Jimmy (Jim) Dean Peterson, of Mobridge, S.D., a former PRCA bull rider and Gold Card member, passed away, Sept. 14 in Denver. He was 84. From a young age, Peterson loved rodeoing and achieved many State High School Championship. In 2003, after breeding and raising colts, he got involved in horse racing. With a stack of win pictures, he retired from racing in 2009. Peterson was a member of the Mobridge (S.D.) Rodeo Association and was the grand marshal in 2011. Peterson was born in Miller, S.D., Feb. 7, 1935, the son of June (Vollenweider) and Nels Peterson. He met Frances Lavon Tatro before leaving for his military service overseas. They married upon his return on April 22, 1960. Peterson was proud to have served in the Army (with Elvis Presley in his company). Peterson embraced his faith. JAMES TAYLOR WEBB

James Taylor Webb, a former PRCA steer wrestler, also known as “Coach” and “Bowie,” of Decatur, Texas, passed away July 2 in Decatur. He was 70. Webb was born July 29, 1948, in Austin, Texas, to James and Doris (Taylor) Webb. Webb married Teresa Parrish on April 10, 1976, in Bridgeport, Texas. Webb was a family man, protective of his wife and sons, and was their steadfast rock in troubled times. Professionally, Webb was a wrestling coach and teacher in Plano, Texas, for nearly 40 years and started the wrestling program at Plano Senior High School in the mid-1970s. He was known for his strong and steady, yet fair, discipline and demanded his wrestlers show respect. While competing part time in steer wrestling, he won numerous rodeos like Pecos, Texas, San Angelo, Texas, Dallas (State Fair rodeo) and the Mesquite Rodeo year-end championship. He qualified for the Texas Circuit Finals 10 times. He won the last Skeeter Memorial steer wrestling match tournament in Ennis, Texas, defeating ByronWalker in the key match. After he retired from steer wrestling, Webb won numerous team roping jackpots. The friendships and memories he cultivated through these times were some of his most cherished. Webb was preceded in death by his parents, James and Doris; and sister, Karen Friesen. Webb is survived by his wife, Teresa, of 43 years; sons Jarrett and Blaine; granddaughter, Taylor June Webb; brother, Tracy Hall; nieces Jessica Estrada and Rachel Tyson; and nephews Jason Friesen, Justin Friesen and Zane Tyson. BRIEFS Priefert family named to Texas hall of fame

On Oct. 1, the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame announced its 2020 Hall of Fame inductees: Lari Dee Guy, Mr. & Mrs. Charles and Kit Moncrief, the Priefert Family, R.H. Steve Stevens Jr., and 2020 Spirit of Texas Award Honoree Aaron Watson. The induction ceremony will be at Billy Bob’s Texas, Jan. 16.
